Chike's '06 WRX TR purchasing thread...

Well as most of you might already know, or have gathered from my sig, my SVX is going to a new owner (Myxalplyx) around the end of January, and around the same time I'm picking up a brand new '06 WRX TR.

I plan on leaving it factory-stock for the first year and competing in SCCA Solo-II D-stock during the '06 season. I'm considering two colors only, both of which my dealer in Richmond has in stock: Crystal Gray Metallic and Steel Gray Metallic:

Crystal Gray

I'm looking at two cars both equipped with a 5spd, spoiler and factory boost gauge.

I scheduled a test-drive on Saturday, January 14th at 10am, and my sales guy is mailing me an '06 brochure as I type this. Should have one of these cars in my driveway by January 28th at the latest!

Still more leg room than the SVX and way more head room. Will be easier to load my son in his car seat with the extra two doors as well.

Looking forward to getting it. I'll be buying a tent soon, so the kids and I can go camping during the summer to give my wife a break. :)

GAHH!! its so.....generic.
Id have a really hard time switching to one of those , but Im sure your having one too. At least your already used to cloth seats. Youll have to go and re-detail it to get it up to your clean standards, but at least your stating with it new and not all cookie crumb and cheetoey like I did! Good luck !

I hear you Eric. It's not as generic as the new camry-esque Legacys though as the front end is not to everyone's taste and really stands out. However, I'm looking forward to being behind the wheel of a turbo again - it's been over 5yrs since I owned my former 300ZX TT.

Congrats Chike,
Personaly I'd rather have a Forester XT (more of a sleeper) cause as much as I like the WRX (and I do like them) they seem so much more common place to me. And if space is an issue, get a Tribeca.....LOL

And given the choice between the two colors, I'd pick the Steel Gray :)

!!!! Chike I saw one at the dealer while I was looking at a 2005 WRX. Not an 06 but at least it would be new to me  Im seriously considering trading my SVX in on a base WRX at the end of next week so we'll definitely have to hang out! And you better pay a visit when youre here in Richmond lol!

Which dealer are you going to? The one on West Broad?

I'm going to the dealer in Midlothian. My sales guy is Bill Fallon who was recommended to me by my friend Will (who bought his '05 LGT there last year). With the options I want it should come to 23.5K and Subaru is runnign a deal until Jan 30th of 4.9% apr financing up to 72 months for qualified buyers. :)

I wonder if I can get the 4.9 with mine being an 05... Hmm Ill have to make a phone call :D

Ill only have 220hp but Ill have a manual and a turbo at least :D

23.5? Mmm good deal... Def a good deal and def better than the 30+ for a STi

I would consider a Forester XT but I want my next car to be new and I don't like the '06 re-design. They're also no 05's left in the state of VA and the FXT costs a little more (26-27K) and is a little out of my price range.

Space isn't a huge issue, but my family situation requires that I get a 4 door asap. :)

Uh, the 05's are rated at 227hp (which is a slight under-rating as '04-'05 models dyno 5hp higher than '02-'03 WRXs).

The '06 WRXs are *rated* at 230hp, but Cobb measured 202hp at the wheels on their awd mustang dyno (on the exact same dyno '02 5spd WRX made 169hp, '05 Legacy GT made 196hp, '04 FXT made 192hp).

It is estimated that the '06 WRXs make 252hp at the crank (bone-stock).

P.S. Here's a dyno graph showing an '04 FXT (Base) vs an '06 WRX (Test):

My main reason for looking at an 05 is because theyre making hellacious deals on them.
