low idle problem

So i just picked up my SVX tonight, and after driving for about thirty minutes, we stopped at a dinner to get some food. I was pulling into the parking area and the car just died, i lost power steering but i could still steer when i strong-armed it, i could also still use the brakes. I put the car into park, and it started right up with an idle of about 800 to 1000.

After eating we left and everything was fine until i was turning onto the road to go to my home. The tach was reading at about 100 to 400 and was bouncing up and down like it couldn't decide. Then turning onto my rode the car died once again, i still had the ability to turn and had full use of my brakes so i let the car come to a stop, the put it into park and started it back up, the idle was around 1k and not dropping at all.

What could this be? Anyone know? A little more info, it is like when you have the key in and have turned it 3/4ths of the way but have not actually turned the car on, all your electronics work and are on, but the engine is not running.

Hope that helped, please let me know what you think it is.

I would think the check engine light would have come on. If not, the first couple things that come to mind are the MAF as well as cam sensor.

Maybe coil pack shorting out?
