Practical Weight Reduction?

My SVX needs a diet. any *inexpensive* ideas?

NomadTW 03-21-2003 11:51 AM

standard:
remove sound deadening, remove unnesicary parts, trim pieces, heavy things,
get lightweight battery, run on half a tank of gas, remove back seats, get lightweight versions of your parts, this can be more pricy, but i know that there are cf hoods out there,
someone should make cf fenders, and such,

do they have a lightweight jdm bumper beam for the svx?

i also understand that the svx is screw crazy, they overscrewed everything, you can probably remove half the screws in the car

you can remove your spare and tool kit

if you want to get more expensive
you can replace all the glass w/ plexi

you can cut unimportant pieces of the car off,

you can get thinner glass for the car

if you want to go custom you can get lightweight everything

i dont' know what model you have, but power seats weight alot, switch to some lightweight race seats,

i also understand thta the ac int he svx is extreemly heavy, remove it

do a manual swap, they're lighter than the auto

if you want to get extreme replace all the body panels w/ anodized aluminum and don't paint it that'll shave some weight

Don't forget, you can also remove the ABS system. The brakes will still work you just get rid of all the junk to keep them from locking up on slippery surfaces.

All the stereo equipment and speakers...

Remove the sunroof hardware and weld it closed...

you guys are funny. :)

If you take off all of your wheels, that will decrease your rolling mass substantially!:D :D

NomadTW 03-21-2003 02:06 PM

i hear the engine is pretty heavy;)

JLittell 03-21-2003 02:06 PM

...Or maybe YOU can go on the diet!!:D

Green1995SVX 03-21-2003 02:35 PM

Judging by the plate of enchelatas that Brad inhaled at chichis last night, i dont think a diet is gonna happen. ;) ;) :D

I like this idea. It is a scientific fact that reducing reciprocating mass has more effect on acceleration than reducing a plain hunk of material just along for the ride - like thinner glass.

Of even more effect is the elimination of oscillating masses - I'd suggest the valves, pistons and connecting rods should go too - that should be an even bigger help.;)

i think the best bet would be to remove the unibody...

it's a BIG piece of METAL
metal is heavy lots of it is heavier, so remove the unibody, an dyou'll have one fast car

You definately don't need the wipers!

...or the visors or steering wheel. :D

drivemusicnow 03-21-2003 05:19 PM

yeah... but are there any REAL ways to lighten the car, that aren't extreme. I mean, 36-3800 lbs is WAY to heavy for 230hp. is there anyway to lighten the frame? but keep the interior the same?

LarryIII 03-21-2003 05:20 PM

I think I can lighten the car by 25-30 lbs. All it will take is me going on a diet. I'm sure the drivers seat will appreciate that.

Some times it scares me that you work on peoples cars.
