rev going nuts.

This is the situation.

1. At about 5-10 mph (rolling) the rev goes up and down like crazy between 500-1250RPM but the car is fine otherwise and...
2. Sometimes at 2000RPM, the needle/RPM is stuck there for a couple of second even with my foot off the gas and a couple of seconds later, the needle comes back down to about the norm.

What do I need to clean? The meet monster is chasing me bad. I already have a court date on the friday before the meet so I will be driving the whole night to get there to begin with... now this...

Is the engine doing this? Or just the gauge?

Seraph 04-01-2003 07:19 PM

It's the engine. If it was just the gauge, I'd just pull the needle out and most likely found the source. :)

I can do electrical, I can do interior but I can't do engine works.

I'm not SVXpert, but it could be your TPS. ????

I'd clean the throttle body and idle air controller.

Same thing

just had by myself after I got rid of (hopefully all) the ****e in my throttle body. I think I got some cleaning fluid in the idle air controller and I had a heart attack when I started it up.
After a good run I must have cleared out whatever it was and is now OK. The point I'm making is yes, indeed sounds like one of those two areas that Beav pointed out.

Sounds like the "surging" my car was doing before I had the O2 sensors fixed.

I will check on them tomorrow if the weather is nice and If I am not too busy again running between a couple of moronic SOS DMV and EPA offices.

Considering that the engine was just 200 miles shy of 200k, I think cleaning parts out is in order...
