Cranks -- No fuel, no spark?

Hello,
I pulled away from a stop sign at a normal rate, and the car died halfway through the intersection. No warning, just OFF, as if the timing belt went.
I checked the belt, perfect.
Checked the cam and crank sensors... fine.
I have found, that I have no spark and no fuel pressure.
I went through the fuses under the hood, everything checks out.
I haven't checked any fuses under the dash. Just came inside after 8 hours of working on it... 11 pm in the driveway with a flashlight:confused:
I have a spare ecu I will try. If not the ecu... maybe ignition switch in the column?
I am out of ideas.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks --- Jon

Ok to clarify, you checked the belt, meaning you TDC'd the crank and made sure your cams were also at the right marks?

And with the key on, nothing comes out of your fuel line from the tank?

Also when you turn the key to on, does the fuel pump buzz at all, and do the power windows and sunroof work?

I did not tdc the crank. I popped off the side covers and checked that the belt was turning.
Nothing comes out of the fuel line when I turn the key on.
I do not hear the fuel pump buzz.
The windows and sunroof work.

Let us know exactly which electrical items do not function as they should, when the ignition is switched off and importantly, on. There are many possibilities, including a faulty main relay.

Everything seems to be working as far accessories. Radio, windows, wipers, and lights are all working.
When I turn the ignition on, only one of the relays under the hood (in the fuse box) is clicking. Should they all be switching or is that normal.
Where is the main relay located?
Does anyone know where I could find a wiring diagram?
Electrical problems are not my expertise... if I even have an expertise:lol:

Downloadable online service manual (w/ wiring diagrams):
http://www.seccs.org/tech/manuals/1992_SVX/index.html

If your windows and sunroof work with key on, you can eliminate the ignition switch. Now since the fuel pump does not come on, you can check or switch out the relay. The fuel pump also has a modulator in the trunk... make sure nothing is sliding around in there that could have hit it. Lastly if everything else checks out good, and you have a good 12 volts to the fuel pump with the key on, then replace the fuel pump.

Thanks for the link. It looks like just what I need.
I don't believe it to be the pump, only because I lost spark as well as the fuel.
I will keep checking here, in between trying different things.
Thanks everyone for the help.

When you checked for spark, where did you ground the plug?

Did you check for codes, just in case one was set when you stalled?

Grounded it to the intake.
I did check for codes, and nothing showed.

Re: Cranks -- No fuel, no spark?

I beleive I have located the main relay.
If it is the main relay, it is bad... Meaning it does not click when I turn the ignition on.
It is mounted to the right side of the steering column.

Bosch 12v 20/30 A
0 332 204 150
Can anyone confirm that this is the main relay?
I hope this is the problem... looks pretty easy to change.
Thanks,
Jon

Disconected this relay:
Now, no crank...
Checked the relay with test leads off the battery...
Got it to click, but only on 2 of the posts. Won't click on any other posts.
Is that normal or is it half bad?
Thanks again for th help.

Thats where the service manual lists it, not sure about the part # though. Im betting the main relay is the same as another on the car, where you can switch it in there to confirm thats the problem before buying a new one.

Excellent idea. I will try that.
I just called the local subaru dealer, and they tell me main relay "not applicable tothis car".

Re: Cranks -- No fuel, no spark?

Well, I replaced that relay with a brand new one, and still no spark or fuel.
I am going to check the wires that plug into it, other than that... I am lost.

Re: Cranks -- No fuel, no spark?

Looking at the wiring diagrams, the fusible link #2 powers the main relay. It says the fusible link is in the main fuse box, I know theres one right there up top, I dont know if its the #2, its just a thick wire connecting two terminals, make sure its clean and tight. I think the other fusible links are under the bottom cover, so you may have to remove it to get to the others.
