SVX mentioned in Car & Driver

On page 25 , its in the readers response section, under "Myths" . It goes like this
"Myth: Gen X/Y only loves front-drive four-bangers.
Fact: Legendary tuner cars include the 3000gt vr4, Supra, Rx-7, Eclipse, MR2, 300ZX, and SVX. Dont forget the legions of Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, and Impala owners aged 16 and up."

I didnt know the SVX was/is considered a tuner-car.

That's pretty cool that Car & Driver mentioned the SVX in the same breath as the Supra, RX-7 and 300ZX... It was one of the Japanese supercars that nearly 'pushed' Porsche to banruptcy in the early 90's.

I guess Car & Driver recognizes that the SVX has a pretty loyal following...:)

It has a very loyal following among auto journalists from what I can tell.

Please help me out here. :) What does "tuner car" mean?

immortal_suby 04-05-2004 06:31 PM

It just means a car that alot of people buy and then build it up. Usually has alot of aftermarket support and products available.
Some examples - eclipse, mustangs, neons, etc..

I have no idea where they got the idea the svx was a tuner car.

Absolutely. Most reviews of the SVX were glowing from journalists... It was a well conceived and designed car, but just had poor execution from Subaru. It had the smallest marketing budget ever!

Actually, it wasnt written by any of the magazines editors. Its like a feedback letter written by one of the subscribers. I thought it might of been someone from this site.

Has anyone ever really seen a bad review of an SVX? I sure as hell haven't.

Chiketkd 04-06-2004 09:20 AM

Not all magazines have had glowing reviews of the SVX, but every road test I've read has admitted that it serves its purpose well - a performance oriented grand tourer.
