VIN info required

Hi there,

yesterday Ewie & I helped another fellow SVXer (Gol) rescue another SVX from being crushed.

It is a 1992 model with license plate number SK6003 (deregistered after being in a crash)

It is a grey metallic with no sunroof, leather trim around the seat edges & similar armrest material on seat inserts - solid one piece fold-down rear seat.

Visors are written in Japanese only - with Alycone on the rear light.

Vented discs in all 4 corners.

SO WE ALL ASSUME FULL JAPANESE IMPORT - all switches are in english?.

One headlight is plastic & one is glass - neither have the fog/driving lights fitted, although this switch function is inside?.

It does have power fold out heated side mirrors.

Funny thing is that is has no NZ VIN number anywhere ???? it has been sitting around for approx 4 years (outside) - normally NZ VIN would be mounted on the driverside strut tower - opposite side to manufacturers plate.

I only have service manuals for USA & the VIN ID chart does not help me..

This is the info from strut tower plate inside the engine area -

(Japanese writing only here) = E-CXW
VIN = CXW-002711 (same number also on the firewall)
Applied Model = CXWA23E
Option Code = BXC
Trim Code = 220
Engine Type = EG33DDX1DE
Color Code = 222 (grey metallic)
Transmission Type = TZ102YL1AA

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Re: VIN info required

It sounds like it may have been imported to NZ after 2000 which means it would not meet the required frontal impact standards and therefore could not be registered.

The chassis number doesn't appear on my list of SVXs in New Zealand.

The car has had a WOF (about 4 years ago) plus registered around same time.....can they force car off road because of law change ?

Mmmm, that throws my theory out of the window. Do you know the plate number?

Not sure exactly when the 17 digit VIN plates were introduced for used imports but it was around 1992 so it is possible it may have been imported before the new VIN plates were required?

We did a CARFAX check while waiting around for the tow wagon - could not get any info on the plate number....see first posting update for plate number

Something about the colour and the red pinstrip reminds me of a conversation we had with Carl and the former head of Subaru NZ we met (sorry, forgotten his name)... could this possibly the first one into NZ?? Could explain the lack of the NZTA VIN plate???

Curiosity got the better of me so I got a full CarJam report here:
http://www.carjam.co.nz/report/?ref=FDA5EE66

Was registered overseas but still intrigues me how it got a plate etc without compliance??
