Great fun tonight! (catching kids stealing cars) Long

So it's about 12:30 my girl and I just got done watching a movie when i hear the beeps on our two way car alarm transmitters notifying me that they were unlocking......? I get up to look at the remotes and sure enough it says the Legacy and the 240 are unlocked. So i hit the lock button and then it beeps and unlocks again....? So I walk out of the apartment complex and down the hallway to check it out.....sure enough there is some kid sitting in the 240!!!!!

So i run right out the doorway heading for him, he looks up for a sec and then goes right back to what he was doing...then he looks up again and realizes im running right at him!! He bolts out of the car and starts running up the street so i start running after him (mind you with no shoes or shirt on).
We get to about the next driveway and he tosses something on the ground, about ten feet further are two other kids walking down the road, they start to run too but then just stop and start yelling that they have nothing to do with the guy i'm chasing (maybe it was the look of homicide on my face or the obsenities i was yelling at the kid i was chasing?, but they didnt want a part of it) I chase the kid about 1/4mile down the road and he turns and runs down a driveway at witch point i realize im getting old and slow and my feet are really starting to hurt.

So I let him go for now and run back to the cars. When i get about to my parking lot i look to find what the kid tossed when i was chasing him...It was the keys to the SVX and the 240, with the other two way transmitters on them!!!!!! I had them in the glovebox of the Legacy and i guess i left the Legacy unlocked!! (Thank god he tossed them!!) When i get back to my parking lot my GF Sandy is there with her phone. So I call the police tell them what happed and give them a description of the kid i was chasing and the two kids that were on the road. So 30 seconds later a cop pulls into the parking lot (advantage of living where the cops drive by every 15mins) and i tell him about what happend. Then he tells me that they picked up the other two kids down the road and was bringing them to me so i could identify someone. When they got there with the kids I identified them as the ones that were walking on the road but since i had no way of knowing wether or not they had anything to do with the kid i chased they had to let them go.

At this point the cop just tells me to keep my cars doors locked and not to leave my keys in the glovebox. :/ So not being happy with this final answer we deside to go for a ride see if we spot anyone. So we cruise down the road to the Cumbies to grab a soda and some smokes and just for the hell of it I ask the cashier if she had seen a kid with hair about my length but a little curlier and dressed in black. She said she had and he was with some otehr guys, i ask her what the other guys look like and she described the other two kids perfectly!!! So now i know he was with thoes other kids that the cops had!!! And now the kicker...what do Cumbies have in them?......Video cameras!...Good ones! So I call the cops back and tell them about my findings and tell them that i plan on going back to the Cumbies in the morning when the manager is there to veiw the videos and suggest that they meet me there so i dont have to hunt him down myself and slam his head in a car door untill it pops! They say they will give me a call in the morning when they get down there!

To be concluded:

I hope you have better luck than I did with the cops.
I had a stereo stolen out of a porsche in a crowded walmart parking lot. The whole thing was caught on camera. Took them all of 5-7 minutes to break in and steal it. All the while the car alarm is going off. And the woman who broke into my car (while leaving her child:mad: in the backseat of her own car unattended:eek: ) had gone into the store earlier in the day and shown her ID. So they knew exactly who she was, had her name, address and all. The cops did absolutely nothing to find her or the people in the other car that helped her out in stealing my radio. Its been about 9 months. They never called me back and I have called them I dont know how many times only to be told they are working on it. In the meantime, the walmart security officer who patrols the parking lot (what a joke) told me they have a stereo stolen every couple days, at least. The cop actually told me if I dont want it to happen again to find another place to shop. And to top it all off, it was the first time I had ever gone to that store. (And the last).

Why in the world would you keep spare keys in the glove box?

svxfiles 02-25-2007 09:04 AM

Jesse, you should have brought the sword!
Then you could have followed the pee trail!:D

So they were safe when they were locked in the car. :) Oh, you say the car wasn't locked. Guess they weren't too safe. :o

Subafreak 02-25-2007 10:49 AM

Well I forgot i had left them in there. I have them on a separate keyring because of all the alarm transmitters. (makes for a bulky key ring). I could have sworn I locked the Legacy earlier that night but there was no sign of forced entry so i guess i forgot to lock it. (my bad). The funny thing is it looked like he went right to the glove box and found the keys for the other cars. It didn't look like he even moved anything else in any of the cars, he just wanted to steal a car i guess.

I was thinking i wish i grabbed something to been the bastered with and at the point i was chasing him i probly would have speard him throught the back with the sword and then lobbed all his limbs off with it, but I didnt really expect to find someone in the car, (Or i probly would have at least put some shoes on first!) Plus I'm sure he was trying to find what key was for the car and where the ignition switch was when i ran out there. The extra few minites it would have taken to put shoes on might have allowed him enough time to get it started and be on his way down the road!!

The police did call me back this morning and told me the manager of the Cumbies wont be in untill Mon. So atleas they seem to be following it up for now. We'll see what happens.

Good luck and keep us informed on the developments. :o

ensteele 02-25-2007 04:14 PM

Now if you had a remote like the one in the movie, you could have caught them easily. :D :D :D

Good detective work, Jesse! I hope the police cooperate and capture them. I have not had luck with the police in the past. When I lived in Harrisburg, PA I found a guy loading drywall equipment into his car on one of the jobs my brothers were on. At the time I did not realise that he did not work for my brothers but was suspicious enough to write down the license number of his car. When I got home I called my brother to relate who I saw and not only did the guy not work for my brothers but it was my brother's tools that he was loadin g into his car. I called the cops and they came out to the job site. I gave them all the info and how do the Harrisburg police do their inspired detective work? They trace his license plate to his home, wait until the following day, call the guy at his house and ask him if he stole anything the previous day, giving him plenty of time to relocate his stolen booty in case they stop by his house. I called the "detective" assigned to the case to get his update and he actually said, "We traced the plates and I called the guy's house. I asked him if he stole anything from that construction site the previous day and he said 'no'. There is nothing more we can do." Can you believe that s**t? Pathetic losers at their finest.

When my first SVX was stolen it was found more than 6 months later in an area of my town known as "the village". The "village" is a few blocks of area that is all subsidised housing and is also a place where the police are called to patrol several times a day due to the crime there. My car was eventually found in the "village" with only a few miles added to it, which means it was parked there for over half a year, before one of the dumbasses in uniform decided to run the plates on it (yes my plates were still on the car) before they realised it was a stolen vehicle. How many black SVX are in my town? One, mine. How many black SVX in my town were reported stolen during that half year period? One, mine. You wouldn't think it would be hard to notice in a place where they drove past it several times a day every day for more than six months but somehow the geniuses in blue overlooked it every day for over 190 days in a row. Useless as boobs on a nun. :(

Anyway, I hope you have better luck with the fuzz in your area. Please keep us updated.

-Johnny

But how do you really feel Johnny? :D :D :D :D

What type of alarm system do you have for the SVX? (Brand and Model)

Subafreak 02-25-2007 07:52 PM

Well I must say I am suprized at how quikly they picked up the other two kids, at least that was something. And they did call me back this morning about the vidio tapes. Now lets see what happens tommorow morning as far as acctually going down there and getting them.

The alarm is an Ungo or something like that, it works very well with the remote start and all. (well as long as someone doesnt have the remote when their stealing the car)
