I'm guessing both edmunds and kbb use stock/generic data for their MPG calculations which are incorrect or these are indeed the original MPG calculations provided from Subaru from way back when? (I would find that hard to believe) It seems flawed from the beginning because every single model, regardless of AWD or FWD get the same City/Highway - which is BS. Of course, I didn't own an SVX when they first hit the streets so I guess that's why I'm asking.

I remember getting terrible MPG in my Bordeaux AWD... I guess it wasn't terrible but did closely match that of what the edmunds MPG calculator suggests... I think the best I ever got from that car was maybe 25/26ish. The FWD Laguna on the other hand, that one got an easy 27-28 all day long. I was reading some thread on another forum and they were mentioning 15MPG and I was just thinking what the hell?

I've been getting 15-18 MPG combined, but that's because of a combination of running around with my friends' Talon TSI and chipped Audi 200 (which makes 320 lbft of torque at 21 lbs boost :eek:) and a faulty O2 sensor which I'm replacing today. :lol:

My 1996 AWD get 29MPG on the highway cruising at 70MPH and that is on slightly hilly terrain. My average MPG in the summer is slightly more than 22MPG and I am guessing that at least half of the gas is consumed in city driving conditions. The city estimates seem about right but the car is capable of much better mileage on the highway than what was estimated.

Well that's good to hear. I'm concerned about my mileage once I put in my 5 speed since my OD gear is .825 coupled with a 4.11 diff.

I have not had a chance to run a full tank on a long highway run. I do estimate I am getting better MPG than I did automatically now that is a 5 speed. In town was the biggest improvement from 12 13. To about 14 15 . On the highway 27 28 from 26 27

I got 26 mpg on the hwy the last time measured it. That was with the 4.44 which is supposed to drop your mileage a bit. I haven't measured the around the town mileage but 16-18 mpg is probably right.

I've cracked 30 MPG once or twice over the years (downhill with a tailwind) but 27-28 is more the norm. Rolling terrain, 65-80 MPH as traffic dictates, cruise control on the open road. 23 MPG pure highway would prompt me to start troubleshooting.

I get between 18-20mpg city, 25 highway.

I'm sure the power mode mod doesn't help at all ;) it's easy to have a lead foot with that thing enabled!

i leave it off most of the time unless there's someone annoying me on the highway or i need to pass quickly.

thats about normal mileage for my style of driving. I think the last 400 mile trip I took on the highway I averaged right around 22. Everywhere else prolly 15 mpg. my 4.44 likes to pullout in front of cars and see how fast I can get away from them :lol:

Before I changed to winter tires I did 21 mpg on

* 23.5km of bendy, hilly countryside road including a fair climb (small hillpass)
* 23.5km of highway, mostly in queues...
* Bad O2 sensor, engine generally out of shape.

I've done 26 mpg on highway, loaded and with studded tires.

I floor it a lot.

The numbers actually are different for FWD vs AWD. Original ratings were 17city/25hwy for AWD models and 19/27 for FWD. This was revised in 2008 by the EPA for "more correct testing procedures" which they claim was for figuring in running a/c, etc. IMO, it was all a load of crap to drop MPG ratings down so they could include more vehicles in the C4C program. New ratings were 15/23 for AWD and 17/25 for FWD.

In any case, they run the cars on a dyno over different computer controlled terrain and driving conditions. In the Laguna FWD I would regularly see 30-32mpg with the a/c on cruising along at 75-90mph. The 92 I drove back from Florida I was seeing 26-29 cruising at the same speeds.
With my 95 Cutlass supreme coupe which was rated for 29hwy under the original ratings and 26 under revised, I got 32mpg cruising at 85-95 with the a/c on and regularly got 24-26 city. It's all about driving habits and typically I always see 10% better than what they're rated for.
