Looking at buying this. Worth it?
 

So I'm looking at buying a 96 SVX. Its got a bad tranny. Is it worth it?
$2000 bucks with 117,000 miles. Supposedly the odometer doesn't work and the wiper has a linkage that is broken.

it looks to have been well cared for...See if he has any kind of service records available, run a carfax on it. look into that odometer problem...ask if its just the trip meter or what...mostly to verifythe actuall mileage.
Id say, knowing nothing about other that whats offered in the pictures, 1500 or so is fair

If it has been well cared for and has service records, and no major problems with it, it would be worth $1500 to $2000. good luck :)

Alright. I called him earlier today and he said $1800 firm. He said the odometer is stuck on 115,645 miles, and he had driven it another 1500 or so before the trans went out on it.

It's worth $1800 as long as the motor and suspension is in the same kind of condition as the body and interior. I'd tell him he needs to put the wheels on the right way for it to be worth $1800.:p

Hahaha. Yeah I should tell him that. I looked at the car tonight, and it looks pretty nice. Its got a ding in the rear bumper and rock chips in front of the rear wheels. The engine looks really clean, starts up and idles smooth. It also revs smoothly and sounds healthy. I think the alternator bearing is starting to make some noise, because I could hear what I thought was it whining, and when I turned the lights on, it got a bit louder. The suspension is nice, and the struts seemed good when I pushed up and down on every corner. The power steering fluid was low, but it didn't seem to be leaking anything on the ground. I have no idea what is wrong with the odometer, but it looked like a car with less than 100 thousand miles, so 117,000 didn't seem to be out of the question. Anything else I should look for?
