Bought my RS today

Well to begin mike (green1995svx) spent the night at my house because we had to leave early in the morning. The dealership (owned by a family friend) is 2 hours from me. Well long story short we were up till 4 am drinking, and anyone who was at this past reading knows what happens when mike drinks.

DRIVING
After sleeping the 'night' we were awoken by my parents who were ready to leave at 7 am. At the time mike was still stumbling around and a bit disoriented. By the time we arived the disorientation had worn off of mike and he was quite sensitive to the light outside, despite the overcast conditions. The entire ride in mike was a bit distracted looking out the windows of the cars an the guys in the other cars around us.

ARIVING
We got there and after driving it and looking over it a price of appz 7900 dollars was agreed upon minus 4300 trade in on the wagon, and as part of the deal i got a hood deflector, and they transfered the exhaust from the wagon onto the RS. Mike made some weird comment under his breath about one of the techs working in the service shop, not really sure what he was talking about there

THE CAR
The car is a black 98 2.5RS, it has had a low quality repaint, but the paint is thick, but orange peely. Instead of removing the stickers and badging they just masked them off, i am disapointed that i cannot debadge the car because of not only the discoloration underneath, but the lip of paint surrounding the badging and stickers.
It drives very smoothly and the 5spd is crisp. we have determined that the car was modded previously. the rear fenders have been rolled, and show minor surface rust that i am going to grind off and cover w/ some black rustoleum. This leads us to the conclusion that it had been lowered previously. There is a wire bolted to the trunk floor that was obviously a subwoofer grounding wire. the transmission has an aftermarket high pressure clutch, and some sort of short shifter. The car is quite quick, much faster off the line than the svx, but not as good in the top end, but still has enough power to pass on the half dashed yellow line.
This car is my first manual i've ever had and the learning curve is quite steep with the short shifter and heavy clutch, but i've gotten significantly better as the day went on and i drove it mroe and more.

overall i'm satisfied, but unfortuantely this means that i will ahve to sell the svx. :( but the RS is reliable which is what i need right now mroe than anything

I never want to rain on anyone's parade, but it sounds like it has alot of issues for a 98 RS. A car you can find anywhere. I wish you luck.

Given the info provided so far, I agree. I would have waited until I found one in better shape.

But, then, I wasn't there and I don't know what your parents paid for it, so what do I know? :p

Good luck with the car.

my parents paid? no, my father only co-signed the loan, there's no 'M&D racing sponsorship' here

i'm not sure what you guys are referring to as 'issues' previously modded is irrelevant, especially since the short shifter and clutch were left on, that is only things i don't have to do, and i will be modding it regardless.

i have come up w/ an excelent body guy to fix the dent and re-do the paint when i save up the cash.

the big deal is the fact that the wagon was worth nowhere near 4300 for trade not in the shape it's in, i wouldn't be surprised if he looses money on that car at auction. He all but told me that he expected to and that was why he had no le-way on the price of the RS.

pictures will come soon

Beautiful pics! I can see why you bought the car... ;)

BTW, when people install a heavy aftermarket clutch, with no apparent mods on the car, that's normally an indication that NOS was used in the car. Simple exhaust & intake upgrades wouldn't require such a strong clutch. Be easy with the car at first and make sure there is no damage to the engine. Might also be a good idea to do an oil change (even if dealer just did one) and have the oil pass through a metal strainer. If you see any metal bits in the oil, then the engine might be on its last legs...

ahh u lucky bum! that car looks awesome!!

immortal_suby 09-16-2004 04:58 PM

that car does look pretty sweet.

i looked for signs of nitrous instalation, however the main fuel line that is usually tapped in the engine was old and didn't have a hole in i t, and there were no signs of anything that a bottle would've been screwed in in the trunk.

i also found that the car still has aftermarket polyurethane swaybar endlinks, but the stock swaybar.

i'll get some interior pics up when this storm blows over
