Online Q & A this weekend

OK, in a move to improve things around here and answer some questions.... I am going to make myself available from 1pm thru 2 or 2:30pm MST in the IRC chat room.

This will be an open forum. Will answer questions and hear user ideas for future improvements, as well as any generalized questions. What happened to cause the move, my race season, the past and future of the SVX forums, etc…

I hope to have Chris Debban the following week to answer tech/mechanical questions. He is not much of a computer person, so we will provide a typist for him. I also hope to be doing stuff like this more often on a monthly basis. Along with this will be a monthly e-newsletter. This will contain information like previous monthly bandwidth usage and activity, Subaru Tech Tips, server status, upcoming meets and so forth.

Will you provide the text of these chats for those who can't be a part of them?

Can we send questions to you if we can't be a part of a chat?

Email your questions to:
chris@subaru-svx.net
before the Saturday event. Be sure to include your online forum name in the detailed question. And yes, the text will be captured for viewing afterwards.

Just a -bump- and reminder about the online chat this weekend.

As a small request, I would like all/as many moderators there as well. I have lots to discuss about policy and procedures. Much much more... many things to come! Are you excited?:D

Can somebody tell me where/how to start this process? When I click on the "Live Chat!" link I go to to another page and it appears a Java applet trys to start - and fails. Is there something special I need to download & install, or??

Seraph 03-19-2004 05:28 PM

You have to download java support. You can get it from sun. Otherwise, I can put a MS Java Engine on my server for you all but that's a 50M file.

Otherwise, you can download mirc. I can do a how-to for the mirc if needed.

And to chris: Thanks for the update.

Thanks for offering to help.

I have the Java plugin from Sun 1.4.1_04, and Java applets I run across on some web pages all seem to work fine.

I have never tried using a chat (IRC) client before now and so have no idea where to go from here.

Seraph 03-19-2004 06:01 PM

I'll do a how-to in a second. Using mIRC.

Feel free to PM me if you need help.

I wish I could join in, but I'll be at the autocross school. :( :)

Sorry.

I think you're doing a great job, by the way. :)
