Dull Faded Plastic

I have seen many posts in the past refering to the dull faded plastic on the RV mirrors and plastic parts of the car. I tried a product that finally worked this time, and it brought the plastic back to a better condition than anything I have used in the past. No, it doesn't look new, but it sure is a lot better than I have been able to get it before. The product is called "Star brite" It is a silicone car polish, and it really did a good job. It took a lot of oxidation off, and after it became shiny, I waxed it and it is almost the same color of the car. I have before and after pictures in my Personal Locker under plastic restoration, and you can see the results. There is a picture of the product container so you can see what it looks like.

Good Luck and I hope this helps someone else.

Good job. I have used 3m Products in the past. The only question is.. silicone. Is that stuff ok to use on the car? I heard mix reviews on silicone on paint.

I've always used 3M products as well... I know that 3M's polishing compound is great for taking off the oxydation. As far as silicon, i think the disadvantages of it is that if you go to paint over it later, you could have problems. I might be wrong though...

I just used it on the mirrors. The rest of the plastic parts were ok. If you need to paint over the mirrors, I think you would need to sand them down anyway. I could be wrong. I was going to repaint them until I used this product. Now it will be quite some time before I need to consider it. I think if they waxed regularly, they may not get that way again, or use the polish again.

Don't worry about the silicone and repaint.

The shop will wash it with degreaser that will take silicone and wax right off.
