How is a JDM SVX different from USA?

I know it's a RHD. Someone wrote about a JDM car, "That car is a top-spec "Version L" 4 wheel steer model with a 3.70 VTD transmission." What does all this mean?

mikecg 07-19-2006 08:03 AM

Basiclly the JDM car has 4 wheel steering (back wheel turn slitly to help with cornering) and it has a 3.70:1 differential. THe US models were not available with 4 wheel steering and had different gearing. otherwise the cars are preety much the same.

Differences between JDM and USA models

1) 4 wheel steering on VL model.
2) VTD gearbox with a 35 front / 65 rear torque split and "diff lock" fuse. (as opposed to the 90:10 clutch operated system on USDM cars)
3) 3.70 differential ratio.
4) Ventilated rear brake disks.
5) Auto headlight turn-on on VL model.
6) Different climate control system to US model.
7) Electric folding wing mirrors
8) "Power Mode" button
9) Clear turn signals with orange repeaters behind front wheel arches
10) Lights are wired differently
11) Automatic door locking
12) Infrared remote control key for drivers door
13) JDM spoiler
14) Distress flare
15) "Boxer" throttle body cover.
16) Alcyone hood ornament and rear light panel
17) 12 disc CD changer on VL model. (sometimes with optional steering wheel controls)
18) Optional air purifer on some models.

and probably a whole load of other things I can't remember at present.

So other than some drive train differences our cars don't suffer from USRetarded Tune Engines. I wouldn't mind having the vented rear brakes. The tourque split and drivetrain can be taken out with a 6MT swap (35/65 split)

There probably are some tuning differences. The JDM cars are supposed to be run on 103 octane. Mine run OK on 95 but they are much better on 98, which is the best we get can here.

The ECU programming is definitely different because one of the Aussie guys had a compatibility problem with LAN's Stage 1 chip in his JDM ECU.

The 4WS helped high speed stability. The back wheels turned the same direction as the front, not the opposite like on some trucks these days.

This may or may not be related but, since there is a JDM difference thread... What center caps were used on alcyone models without BBS rims. Did Alcyone vehicles have the directional rim option?

They are the standard centre caps, with subaru written on them.
