Oil light

Driving home this evening, my oil light came on for just a split-second and went back out. This happened only once. When I got home I checked the oil and it was a little low (less than a quart). I added oil (Mobil1) to the fill mark to be sure.

The car has only 105,000 miles on it and has had the oil changed every 5000 miles with Mobil 1. The car has never given me any engine performance issues and I am at a loss for an explanation. I installed a new alternator last week but I am sure this is unrelated.

The oil light is controlled by a pressure switch, so it seems that pressure was low. Is it possible that my oil pump is going out ot that maybe the oil pickup in the pan is clogged somehow. How hard is this to replace?

I think it just wants to drive you crazy. I would not worry about it until it comes on again or starts to stay on. It could have had a hick up that dropped the pressure for just a moment. Maybe someone else has some ideas, but unless it comes on more than that, I wouldn't worry about it. :)

were you comming to a stop at the time?? When the car borderline stalls the light will come on... Also, the oil switch is right under the alternator, make sure it isn't loose
