An accident
My gf was driving my car on the interstate when a metal grating fell off a truck in front of us. She drove over it at ~65mph. The two passenger side tires blew, both rims bent and there is another problem I have yet to diagnose. When I accelerate from a stop or when I turn the car, a loud thumping comes from the back/under the car. Any ideas? I was thinking a strut issues, but could it besomething else? An axle problem perhaps?

Thumping noise when you turn? CV joint maybe...

Re: An accident
If you have an awd SVX, it would be a half-shaft that might be broken in the rear. Your rear strut could also be damaged from the impact of the metal bar against the tires.
Good luck with the fix! Will insurance cover it all? -Chike Quote:

Yeah, thankfully the other guys insurance will be covering it.

If someone elses insurance is covering it I would say take it to a shop and dont bother with it yourself. Don't accept it back until you are satisfied that eveything has been fixed.

Well I'm glad you're both okay. Stuff flying off trucks is scary. The windshield on my wife's old Legacy was broken by a similar stray.
That piece of metal could have damaged all sorts of things. Axles, transmission mounts, suspension all come to mind. You're just going to have to have it looked at. :( |
Glad you are all safe.
