gas problem?

my svx has a 18.5 gallon tank right, well if i run it on empty and then put 7 gallons in it will show i put more then half in, not only that but if i drive like 50 miles normaly it will use half a tank!! anyone know anything about this?

I wouldn't put much faith in that fuel gauge. Common with the SVX.

Hmm.... its common on svx, even it shows below E, it still has 4gallons in it. all my cars are like tht. You dont wanna hear abt alfa, you can never understand those guages at all, you apply brakes hard when the tank is 1/4 full, the guage shows almost zero (same when you go down hill) and when u give it full throttle it shows more than half (same when you go uphill) :). I just get used to them.. the best thing is get ur cars mpg and go from there. -Pavan

yup! I get the same thing. I can put in 10 bucks on a quarter tank and have a little less than a half. I drive about 50 miles and it's at 1/4, then it stays there for a long time before moving.

If you search on gas gauge, you will find hours worth of reading material. :)

Cross country we would fill up and drive 120 miles before the gage moved <LOL> and then like a 120 more and it was on E . Fill up and only get maybe 11 gal. into it.

That's the way mine is too. 200-220 miles and I can only get 12 gallons in it (the gauge at that point says E).

I filled up last night on empty and only got just over 12 gallons. WTF!? my guage is off by 6 gallons!?

Early Subaru gas gauges are notoriously wrong. It's just the way they are. A few bottles of techron and you might get it to be accurate.

Somehow I made it 110 miles to East Orange and back with the needle below the 'E' level and the gas light blinking.... 65mph on cruise control with white knuckles, windows up, and foglights off, but I still made it!

I always like to keep my tank as full as I can anyway. But an accurate gauge would be nice.

Did you fill it full afterwards? And how many gallons did it show?

I just finished a road trip to Mackinac City and averaged 385 miles to the "E" and when I filled up, I filled it full with 12.5 gallons only....so basically I have 6 gallons remaining under "E" ???
