Gt40 turboed eg33

I saw a Gt40 turboed eg33 gc8 race car today in the flesh in Melbourne

Drove down to get a JDM bonnet (just wanted the emblem) and ended up with two front guards, front and rear bumper, two doors and a JDM rear wing

Hahaha you've seen it, it's a very cool build. Subaru should've put EG33's in Impreza's from day one :)

Any chance we can get the owner signed up here and get a description of his EG33 build?

He's not a fan of forums so prolly no chance. His build is very similar to mine however it's not public knowledge yet so I'm not at liberty to publish the details. If E removes the company name so he is anonymous then I may give a few details :)

Thanks :) Now it's anonymous I can give a few details.

Engine number one in the car is stock and will run E85. He is planning to make around 300-350 kw atw and just see how it goes and test everything. There are many things to check before the good engine goes in - rear radiator effectiveness, oil surge, fueling etc. It will also be good to see how strong the stock head gasket / head bolt combination is - my engine had a blown head gasket before I got it so I was never able to determine that in my case - didn't stop me drag racing and circuit racing it though haha. Most RS turbo EJ20's (same head gasket type) can run 200 kw atw with 24 psi no worries so we would assume the EG33 can also handle the same power per cylinder stock. This theory is also why I tested the stock pistons and had faith in them and why the owner above is also doing so. Stock RS / WRX pistons can handle 200-250 kw atw, 62.5 kw per cylinder... that's well over 360 kw atw in the EG33. So basically a lot of further R&D going to occur here.

Engine number two is a built EG33, Manley rods, CP pistons and he is currently in the process of sorting out the heads. The valves will most likely be MY98 WRX valves slightly tipped and running a supertech solid bucket. Most likely stock MY98 springs - MY98 WRX is good for 7500 rpm stock and is one of the best pre MY99 head combinations avaialble so no issues here. He flowed the heads and then had Tighe come up with a billet cam which matched the stock head flow. It's not an "F1" spec turbo EG33's so massive duration and ~9mm lift will do the trick for now. I think it's around 250 duration @ 50 thou but I can't recall.

The turbo is a twin scroll GT40 with everything twin scroll (seperated) including the wastegate. Stock original cast headers feed the two pipes. The bigger duration could see one cylinder's exhaust pulse interferring with another however with the EJ20 motors this isn't an issue below 55 kw per cylinder and below 7000 rpm - also bare in mind they're firing 180* apart whereas the EG33 banks are 240* apart. Will be good to see, I'm predicting massive power all the way to 7500-8000 rpm at lowish boost with engine 2.

He will dyno soon with engine 1 and it will give us a huge amount of info. We're very keen on seeing if the bigger twin scroll turbo changes anything or if he will max out at the roughly the same power I did due to the ****ty stock cams. I think he has also binned the IRIS valve.

The car is a GC8, stripped, caged and were hoping to hit the track very soon together.

Yep iris is gone

I've got a gt3576 twin scroll and twin gt2560r sitting on my desk that I'm Planning on putting in, at the moment they are just sexy looking Paper weights
