SVX Press Photos - in my Locker
I have uploaded the SVX Press Photos that I got from Ebay into my personal locker so download them if anybody wants them.
I apologise about the size (I scanned them at 300DPI) but since the originals are very glossy and artistic, I did not want to loose any detail. Regards Jamsvx:) |
Jamsxv,
Very nice photos. They obviously show a UK car. I noticed in pix #2 that the car has headlight washers mounted on the front bumper. My USA model ('97 LSi) does not have these and I have never seen them on any USA SVX. Does anybody know if our USA models can be EASILY retrofitted with this washer system? It certainly would make our lives easier. Larry III |
Cool! Thanks for the post. Now if I could ever get the time to use the HP scanner at work I'd post those original Giugiaro drawings of the three SVX concepts. Nice. Just gotta make time to do it.

Those photos of the concepts would be excellent...are they in any way similar to the ones that appear in the Road and Track book? Although the sales catalogue in Australia showed a model with front washers (see the Eurocatalogue page on my website), it was in tiny tiny writing that such was a European model. Just for information, Australia did not get: front wheel drive non-leather (all were black leather interiors and all had sunroofs) headlight adjustment next to the gear shifter front washers for the headlights The option of blue as an exterior colour. Headlight adjustment switch
I saw this feature when I test drove a UK-spec SVX in England last summer. It is a motorized adjustment of the entire reflector assembly to compensate for loads thet would cause the back od the SVX to sag and disrupt the proper aim of the headlights. There are 3 positions, 0, I and II. The first position (0) is the normal position for use with Driver and passenger as load. The second position (I) is for 4 passengers in the SVX OR 2 passengers and a fully loaded trunk. The third position (II) is for 4 passengers AND a fully loaded trunk.
This is one reason that the UK-spec headlight assemblies are so expensive. In case you want part numbers the Left Headlight assembly is 84001PA010 and the Right headlight assembly is 84001PA100. These run about $491.00 each plus shipping. You also would need the Headlamp Leveler switch, part number 83015PA010 at a cost of $80.00. The interesting thing about UK-spec headlights is there are not any foglights in them; it is just a blank plate. However rear fog lights are built in to the rear tail light panel and are mandatory. I guess in bad weather it is better to be seen than to see... |

An Irishman apologising about the size? You've been down under too long, James Joe:) |
I think that one of the concepts in the R&T book is in the three that I have. The ones I have were sent to me by ItalDesign years back. I asked one of their reps and they sent them to me via mail. All the way from Italy! Cool huh? Anyway, these are the orignial concept drawings that Giugiaro did for Subaru. They look a lot like the old XT machine (popup headlights, stuff like that). They are labeled simply "A", "B", and "C". You can what would be the final car but still had some refinement to go. Anyway, if I ever get time I'll post them. Some of them are slides (yes, slides) and I need to convert them to digital someway.

UK Headlamp washers
Larry,
I did some research a while ago for an SVX owner in Japan. It is possible to fit the UK headlamp washers to a Japanese SVX, so it might be possible to fit them to a US SVX too. (Maybe the fact that your cars are LHD would cause a problem). This is the information given to me by a dealer in the UK. (Lancasters of Pangbourne www.lancasterplc.co.uk) Parts required for headlamp washer modification. 1.TANK HEADLAMP WASHER £38.89+VAT 2.MOTOR & PUMP HLAMP WASHER £85.55+VAT 3.HOSE X2 £7.77+VAT 4.NOZZLE HLAMP WASHERS X 2 £11.95+VAT 5.VALVE £10.85+VAT 6.TANK SCREEN WASHER £48.63+VAT 7.SMALL FIXINGS& CLIPS APPRX £30.00+VAT 8.SWITCH PANEL ASSY £159.00+VAT Prices are in UK pounds and VAT means 17.5% sales tax) I was also given the following list of part numbers. 86631pa010 tank headlamp wash 86611pa000 motor headlamp wash 86655pa100 hose headlamp wash x 2 86636pa040 nozzle headlamp wash x 2 786634010 valve 86631pa030 tank screen wash 786621000 motor&pump screen wash 86615pa020 cover wash tank Phil. |
Headlamp washers
I notice there is no part listing for a switch, is that an omission, or is it tied into the windshield washer system?

Re: 1986 ItalDesign mockup
OMG! I thought it was a Probe at that angle!!

That is in fact very much like one of the drawings. They all resemble it many ways. I'll do what I can.
