tranny fluid change
I need to change the fluid in the tranny of our '92 LSL with 160k (not a flush) and wondered how much fluid and what type should I get? I do have the external filter which may require more fluid?

Should be able to just replace what you drain out, as not all of the fluid will drain from the tranny. I think it's only going to be 4qts or so. I can check my manual when I get home. Otherwise, do a search, I know the info exists in another thread that I actually started some time ago...

Best way to do it is to measure the amount of fluid you drain and replace that same amount. The owner's manual says 4qts per change - with the trans having a 10qt capacity. Some members have been able to drain 7 qts by putting the front-end up on jack stands and letting it drain for ~ 1 hour.

I always use wheel ramps and I usually have to put in 6-7 quarts.

I jack up the passenger side (the drain is on the driver's side) and get just at 7 qts consistently.

Not to be OT, but how do you get ramps under the front end, I have had no luck in trying to roll the car up onto them? Am I missing a secret front end ground clearance hydrolic thingamabob?:p

Regular yellow ramps with two 2X4s about 2 ft long. It makes the ramps more gradual. :)

Check these out. Turned my very frustrating set of ramps into very easy to use tools.

Having wood makes it much easier to keep it up. :p |
Haha. Good point Boondock, thanks for the tip :p
Rojo, did you build those or buy 'em? I'd love to get a set. My jack struggles to lift the beheamoth!:D |
