Engine Swap - Sitting for a while
I picked up another engine, this one with 88k on it, which I plan to use while I do a very complete rebuild of my engine. This engine has been sitting for a few years in a barn with oil in it. Is there anything (besides timing belt/water pump/valve cover) that I should do before transplanting it and running it?

Re: Engine Swap - Sitting for a while
I would take the heads off and check the guts inside. If not stored properly even the aluminum inside can oxidize. New head gaskets while the engine is out is a good idea in itself.
I have a stored engine in similar condition. I haven't opened it up yet. I want to install it in my boat. |
Re: Engine Swap - Sitting for a while
I went ahead and did a leak down test and all shows around 5-8%. While this is not a definitive test for issues this does help reassure it should be alright.
