Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
Read first drive in the new Car & Driver. It's really a Subie, engineered and built by your favorite manufacturer in Gunma. Amusing comment made that it "...feels more like a joint venture between Subaru and Lotus than a collaboration with Camrys-By-The_Billions, Ltd." ;)
And have a great time at SEMA. Awesome show! Glenn |
Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
It looks pissed off!
Enjoy the show! |
Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
It's a good looking car. I'm be very surprised if the Subaru version doesnt have a great deal of "frumpy" added into the design.

don't forget "strange" and "goofy", too. no AWD, no power, no care. it might be fun to drive for a couple weeks, but with the power-to-weight ratio of a Chrysler PT Cruiser, it would get boring pretty quickly for me. SVX'ers can be glad to know that their 10-year old car will hit 0-60mph in about the same time as Subaru's brand new sportscar. |

Interesting article, but doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know. |

"Subaru Horizon After the rotation of the Earth stopped and created a “Divided” planet, humans were forced to set up shop on the cooler dark side. But, as luck would have it, the source of their energy is running low and the only place it can be found is located where the sun shines, a lot. With their magic cat Pleiades in tow, three brave humans jump in their go-anywhere Subaru Horizon, which can withstand the high temperatures electromagnetic fields and toxic atmosphere found on the other side of the world, to save the day, er…night." |
Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
Hey SVX'ers. I got a chance to see both variants up close and personal last weekend at the LA Auto Show. Thought I'd share with y'all some :pics:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-u...2/IMG_4791.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-m...2/IMG_4797.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-z...2/IMG_4809.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J...0/IMG_4813.jpg It's a foxy car all right. It really isn't a successor to the SVX, but the XT seems a more fitting comparison. It's about XT sized believe it or not, which may explain why they trotted out an XT instead of an SVX at their SEMA booth. I'd place it's size right between the Miata and the RX-8 race car Mazda had on display next door. It's considerably smaller than the Genesis or 370Z. I personally couldn't stomach the design excess of the Scion. Between the hood and rocker in front of the doors there are 11 horizontal creases in the bodywork. Some of those don't last more than 6". It came off looking like a mockery of modern styling than a product of it, similar to the last gen Celica with the optional body kit.:barf: I took a lot of pics of it, but it's ugly from every angle. I didn't bother editing them because it's like lipstick on a pig. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-u...2/IMG_4919.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c...2/IMG_4924.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4...2/IMG_4926.JPG |
Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
That Subaru version is actually a damned nice looking car :) Might be worth looking at when I get tired of my incoming Bimmer 135i ;)

there was a write up on it in the aust "daily telegraph" i cant find it on the net to post a link but it does have a bit at the end about the svx "When the BRZ hits the road it will be the first subaru coupe since the flabby  SVX of 1991. That car was intended as a grand tourer and has a six-cylinder engine, as well as a jet-fighter-style side glass with a small opening for the windows in the doors " |
Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
When the time comes to get a new car I will definitely be considering the Subi version. If it was AWD there would be no question about it.

Re: FT-86 (Scion FR-S)
The Scion looks like it might be happier as a boat.
