Is A/C compressor servicable?
My 96 SVX A/C compressor pulley bearing seems to have worn out as there is wobble exhibited which keeps throwing belts.
Can you remove the A/C clutch, then the pulley and replace the bearing inside? Or do I need to replace the whole compressor? |
Re: Is A/C compressor servicable?
I don't know as much as the other members here, but the ac compressor does not have an expanded view in the service manual (unlike the PS pump) and therefore I would guess you can't get Subaru parts for it.
On the other hand, I believe that the compressors are either diesel Kiki or Zexel brand and you could possibly find parts for them on other sites. If I have some free time I will definitely investigate too. |
Re: Is A/C compressor servicable?
They are Zexel. There are kits available for Impreza and Forester on Ebay for around $70 so I imagine there must be parts for the SVX unit.

FWIW I had mine rebuilt by a place in Texas. It wasn't too pricey.
I believe there is one available here at a local scrap yard. |
Re: Is A/C compressor servicable?
I don't want to steal this thread but the AC compressor in my 95 LSi needs to be replaced but Subaru has discontinued the AC compressor. I will check out the links online for Zexel but does anyone have a source for the Subaru unit other than a salvage yard.
