Creaking rack or suspension? / trunk access? (brake hard-lines)

Ok, so i was replacing all of the brakes and such on my svx this past weekend.

Rear rotors

rear pads

right rear calipers

and front pads

While doing the work on the fronts (i leave the steering coloumn unlocked so i can turn it back and forth by hand at the rotor), I noticed that the rack or something related creaks or something involved make noise. Anyone have a fix or know what that is?

Also I found i had a broken hardline for the braking system right above the rear differential/subframe. I was told by the former owner last night (havent been near the car since i've heard this) that there is an access panel in the trunk? Can I get to the hardline from there?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Anyone?!? lol

The creaking could be as simple as the "Bellows" on the tie rods opening and closing. It could also be the two bushings holding the rack to the subframe.

There's a bunch of other things it could be as well.... Sway bar bushings, tie rod ends, upper strut mounts, ball joints...

It will probably be best to get under there while somebody moves the wheels so you can tell better where it's coming from.

As far as the access cover in the trunk... Off the top of my head, the only panel large enough to work through is for the gas tank. I can't think of any others???? I seem to remember someone else having a problem with their rear brake lines within the past few months... Have you tried a search?

Search

This is what the search turned up http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ear+brake+line

But that still wasnt very helpful. I dont have or want to bend tubing :( i could but i would like to avoid it.

No one came back with the availability of a pre bent line, or the best route for it if not going with the stock routing.

You'll be able to get the pre-bent line from the dealer. Liberty Subaru in Oradel, NJ has great service and prices, 888-SUBY4WD.

Im trying to find it right now online with no luck lol

Liberty's website isn't the best, I usually just call them. Their parts guys are good. Ask or the "subaru-svx.net discount".

Don't fear the reeper.. Or bending new brake lines it much cheeper and they don't need to look perfect they just need to work you can rent most of the tools at various auto part stores

Mike,

This could very well be the well documented "O" ring fault. Air in the system creates a whining, creaking, whistling, sound. Very hard to describe and varying from car to car.

Quick easy cheap fix and well written up here in the how too section.

Thanks! I will look into that :)

The real show stopper is the brake line as im already past my budget on this car :(
