SVX Newbie - What To Look For When Buying?

Firstly, my apologies if this has been covered a billion times already...

Basically, I'd like to know what I should look for if I'd like to get an SVX, besides the usual used car stuff. I know the tranny's health is a must-check.

Is there a specific year I should be looking for?

Aaah, it was the AWD ability I was losing my head over. So a '94 LSi or up..?

My SVX would pretty much start out its new life as a project car, so the tranny bits aren't a huge deal right off the bat.

My questions and answers from a few days ago ;)

Ah. Thank you!

I can relate a bit! I went from a '99 LS1 to a 2.5 RS. I do miss the RWD and the brute strength of the LS1, but I was getting a little tired of having my monthly insurance just about equal my car payment. =P

My friend's got a Z32 that we just did a TT swap on, unfortunately it took us weeks! Sucks to work full time and then realize you're missing a tool/part every time you get a chance to work on the swap. I really chalked it up to his not being prepared, but..

The swap's done, but not up to its full potential. It's also his daily driver. And he's running it pretty much w/out any exhaust system.

Now he's having an AWD jones.

BTW the only good way to do a TT swap is to buy an entire front clip from Japan. These will usually run you around 2500

Yeah, it was a front clip swap. ^.^ But I don't think he was ready for it. Not to rag on people's swap styles, but he got tired of keeping track of things, wouldn't tag parts, and just started cutting into things in general. =P

thats not a good plan of action. My brother and a buddy of ours and myself finished his swap in 2 days with marking everything under each hood and keeping track of parts meticulously. The hardest part was when he cut the oil lines to the turbos by accident.... that set us back a couple hours

Tom

Yeah. I don't see how anyone could sanely get through a swap (especially if they don't do them constantly) if they don't keep thing meticulous. =P

I'm not a big believer in car payments, so I don't have any ;)
And though I'm currently looking into a SVX, I'll likely be buried in my Z. Heck maybe just put me, the Z, and the SVX (when I get one), into cold storage when I'm done with this place :D :D :D

All 92's and 93's were AWD, after that they started to vary with trim level.

If this is going to be a project car, your best bet may be to find one with a bad trans. You will generally get a much better deal. That's how our racecar started out less than a year ago.

Okay. I must have misread something about the AWD years then.

BordeauxComet 08-04-2005 09:22 PM

I'll clarify for ya

The only years that are not completely AWD are 94 and 95. 1994 L, LE, & LS models are FWD, LSi is AWD. For 1995, L can be either (AWD w/ safty package, FWD w/o). LS is FWD, LSi is AWD. All models of all other years are AWD.
