knock sensor replacement

My "Check engine light" indicates I need to replace a knock sensor. How many "Knock sensors" does a SVX have?

Two. The code should tell you which one is bad if I remember correctly.

Edit: 22 = right side, 28 = left side

Thanks for the info. I didn't pay attention after my mechanic said "knock sensor" so I don't know if he told me which side. I found a site on ebay which sells them for under $6 including shipping (not from China but Florida so I don't know about the effect of Irma),so I'll just order 2. Thanks again.

I got mine from Rockauto.
This may help:

Re: knock sensor replacement

I checked Rockauto and their cheapest knock sensor is about $30 while these from FL. are under $6 but I need to check if they are made in China (my guess is YES) but I need to wait until after IRMA destroys FL. to try and contact the seller. The photos are a great help since I didn't know where the knock sensors are located but it looks difficult to reach those sensors, even w/proper tools since I don't have small hands.

Re: knock sensor replacement

better look up a contortion artist mechanic on craigslist with alien like fingers that is used to working on ufos

After looking at those instructional photos, I ask why are the knock sensors so hided; guess the designers aren't mechanics.

To do their job, they have to be on the block to sense the "Knock" in the motor, to keep timing in check....

I replaced mine. It was a piece of cake! Especially since I already had the intake manifold off... :p

I didn't mean to insult an engine designer but I realize they have to be in the block to do their job. Since I really don't know how they measure knock in all 6 cylinders from the center cylinders on each side, their placement could be in a more convenient location since they will eventually need to be replaced. As far as the replacement knock sensors for < $6, they are from China, not my first choice of manufacturing. I'll check w/Rockauto but they may also be from China.

If you have to pull the Manifold, then don't make yourself do it twice. Look at replacing the water hose on the right side of the engine top. It is a section about 4 inches long that runs front to back. I had to re-pull to get the hose redone when it blew out shortly after doing both sensors.

All the vacuum lines too. I'm sure they're brittle.

Hmm. I didn't find it very difficult to just slip in the box wrench & change the sensor without disassembling everything. (Passenger side)
