where's the short?

Driving in a heavy rain last night my alarm started to go. Horn honking, interior lights blinking. I pushed the horn buttons a few times and, within a minute, it stopped. I'm not sure that pushing the horn had anything to do with it, I expect that wherever the water got in, it dried up. Any idea what would do that? Is it a short or something else? I've only had the SVX a few months so am still learning.

mine used to do that and it was the door switch. for some reason if it thought the door was open when you were driving it set off the alarm. opening and closing the door or just jostling things around in general always seemed to work. cleaned the switch contacts and never happened again. yours sounds like it may be ignition switch related because you had to bang on the wheel.

Thanks!

where is the door switch?

(I didn't hit the wheel much, just pushed the horn buttons.)

Denver, huh? I've been looking- casually- for a polo green parts car. If you hear of one near you and think of it, please let me know. I'll be looking harder next summer. I have to pick up a flatbed trailer first- probably around Denver, too, since they're a lot cheaper than up here in Cody.

if i remember correctly it was part of the door latch itself, messed with it when i was replacing the LF window regulator. will keep an eye out, spotted one driving a couple months ago that from the condition it was in will probably be on craigslist as a part out soon. let me know if you see one down here you need someone to look at before coming all the way to see it.

Re: where's the short?

Mine used to do that, and it was caused by a faulty door lock timer.
