JDM tranny vs Eurotranny
 

Hi Guys

As you may remember my autotranny is gone, and I like to have another one.
In Europe there are only 2 available at giant costs
The code of my tranny is TZ102-YP1BA
After reading a lot about this subject on the forum, I am still a little puzzled.

I understand that JDM and USDM is not an easy swap.
But all I can find about the the differences between Euro and JDM is the front speed sensor (inside vs outside and interchangable?) and rear mounting bracket.

Am I right about this?

In the US there are a number of JDM available at reasonable costs so that would be a nice option for me

Hi Renus,

As far as I have been told the JDM and Euro boxes are the same, the UK box has a different speed sensor due to us being MPH not KPH, the Japanese are KPH also.

There are currently 2 gearboxes on ebay UK for reasonable money both being Japanese imports so will be KPH.

I have tried subaru svx transmission 4eat in all possible combinations, but there is no responding advert

PS I know Mocomracing (Essex) has a gearbox with matching numbers, dont know the state it is in

What about gear ratio? 3.70 on JDM as i know, you possibly have 3.54. So rear differential is must be for box ratio

Yes you are right about the differences between the JDM and the Euro. It will fit. You swap the front speed sensor from your Euro box to the JDM box. The rear mount will be the same. :)

yeah I was going to say the same thing about swapping sensors. One thing everyone should try and remember. Fuji Heavy Mass produced their parts. They tried to stick to a universal setup for the year brackets (90-94, 95-99, 2000-2004 etc)

Other than changing out sensors, I really dont see you having any other issues unless the Euro/JDM transmissions have limited slip in the front diff but even then its all internal changes NOT external.

As for the electronics/TCU I cannot speak of, but I'm sure the JDM shift maps are 100% completely different than the USA/CA models mainly because of the added horsepower/TQ the JDM cars had over the USA cars

Do the JDM cars have more power/torque?? news to me if they do, they do not have as much emmision crap on them (no egr), they are pretty much the same as the UK version apart from being speed limited to 112mph

Where was no "limited slip in the front diff" on any of the SVX models.

He is wanting to change a Euro box for a JDM box. The Euro TCU will run the JDM box, with the speed sensor change, like it was it's own, no difference.

To my knowledge there is no difference in the power of the JDM engine to the US or Euro. The only one that does put out more power, is the model for the Eastern countries, like Danny's Lebanon model, that ran leaded fuel with no cats or any other emission gear.

Just one more thing.

There was a change in the C solenoids in both the JDM and the Euro boxs.
The 92 to 94 had a normally open, Solenoid, the 95 to 97 had a normally closed solenoid.
Just check the colour of the solenoids wire, make sure that you use the same colour wire in the JDM box as your Euro one.

Update

As the tranny only shifts in reverse and 1st gear I have purchased another gearbox in Great Britain with the same code

Now my question is if there is a how-to for changing the gearbox, I mean the order of the activities for replacing that thing

On itself it will be a bolt out-bolt in issue, but there is a lot around it
