tranny oil change

Hey guys, my friend has a garage. I am thinking about going to his garage and changing tranny oil myself. How many quarts of synthetic oil does our 4EAT transmission needs. Do I need to change any oil filter or something when I change the tranny oil. Can somebody tell me the whole procedure.

I've been waiting for a similar response in a post I made in the "Technical Q&A" forum. 22 views but not one response.

Do you currently have synthetic fluid in your tranny?

I'm thinking you will probably need 4-5 quarts. The tranny takes 10 when it's dry but when changing the oil most of it will remain in the torque converter.

As for the filter - definately change it! (how well do you trust your tranny???)

There's actually 2 filters. One in the tranny (oil pan) and there should be one on the bottom of the radiator on the driver's side. I'm changing my tranny oil soon and I'm replacing both filters.

yes, I do have sysnthetic fluid in my tranny right now. I want to know the whole procedure about changing the oil. You said that most of the oil will remain in torque convertor. How can I change most of the oil, so I won't mix up old and new oil.
What are the type and models # of both filter that I need to replace?

It's good that you already have synthetic fluid. I don't but I'd like to. I just don't know if bad stuff happens if you mix the two types.

There was another post regarding flushing the tranny. I can't recall it offhand but I'm sure if you use the search feature you can find it. Flushing should clean out all the oil.

As for the filters...there is a filter 'kit' for the filter by the radiator part number 31099AA370 and the filter in the tranny (I think) is part number 31728AA011 but someone else may want to verify that for me please.

It's #10 here:
