Are you around town.....Have the SVX here until i go home on sat for winter break. Problem though, i was driving to dinner the other day, the lights turned on (air bag-brakes-battery, etc) im thinking ok, maybe something is wrong with the lights. So we eat dinner and the car starts again, the lights still on, but on the way back from highway 100, all the lights start dimming, the radio cuts out, im thinking oh crap the battery is dead....so i just make it back to "stucture" at school, park it, and them shut the engine off. Try to start it again, wont start....need help!!!

Mike,

I was curious so I disassembled your alternator this afternoon. I found that you have a bad voltage regulator and one (of three) bad diode.

Sucks that you can't get the parts individually. I bet there's less than $20 worth of parts that went bad...

So typical for our modern disposable society.

See you Friday.

Ya.....got to love it, spending more money then you have to. When i called to order the new alternator, i was asking about it, and when i told him to order it for sure, he told me he already did. So its been ordered and will be here tomorrow morning so they say, i may have a friend take me over there tomorrow to pick it up, so we have more time on Friday...so you can see if you like exhuast, etc

We have a little shop in Owensboro that rebuilds starters and alternators for about 35.00. They'll rebuild anything. They were the ones who rebuilt my Peugeot alternator. It's good to have that option. He can usually turn one around in three days time, less time than it takes to order one in.

Build it.

Yes,
Randy is right. I got mine rebuilt, no problem, and cheap. You have to find a specialist. Remember the car manufacturers rarely do their own electrical components, they buy them in. So a specialist dealing with all makes of car will know by the model and/or chassis of your alternator what parts will be required to fix it.
