1992 SVX AWD - parting out

I have a 1992 SVX AWD pearly that I am parting out. The engine and engine wiring harness are not for sale.

There's something wrong with the transmission, I don't know anything about automatics so I couldn't tell you the problem. 4th gear won't engage and it slips going into 3rd. You can have the trans cheap if you want it for a core. Might be a cheap and easy fix, I have no idea.

The dash is in great condition, no cracks or tears.

Front seats are repairable, there's a rip in the drivers side. Back seats are just fine.

Most body panels are good with no damage. Hood in great condition.

I have two new, unused black brake rotors.

Let me know if you would like me to take a look at anything for you. Pictures available upon request.

I'll ship smaller items, larger items I would prefer pickup.
Paypal preferred. Cash accepted in person only.
Located 30 minutes south of Fort Worth, Texas

email me at justinwelch88@gmail.com for inquiries.
Thanks

Why don't you just put a transmission in it and have a complete car?
A running SVX will be worth more than a pile of used parts.

I'm building the engine for my 1985 VW Vanagon. I'm making a trail toy and the low end torque of the SVX is perfect for what I need. I have no use for the car, and no money to put into it.

Here's my journal if anyone is interested, it's a complete rebuild with lots of engine porn :D

I didn't read all 16 pages of that thread so I don't really know your specifics. What I know in general is that a lot of perfectly good SVX have been cannibalized by people putting our engines into VWs. I don't have a problem if the engine comes out of wrecked SVX but I hate to see a perfectly good SVX used as a donor then parted out.

Nothing against VW guys. I would just rather see another SVX on the road. I happen to like them.

Understandable. You guys just happen to have one of, if not the best, engine for the Vanagon. I really wanted to keep the car for myself as a project but I'm putting too much money into this engine and trail parts to even consider keeping it. It was going to go to the junkyard but I figured I could help some people out with some parts instead. At least parts of the car will be back on the road soon.

Is the car a Texas car, California, where did you buy the car?

Why don't vanagon owners who want to do this just look for engines? I have a spare engine in my garage just waiting to be running again:rolleyes:

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

That is usually our preferred method of doing this conversion, it's a lot easier buying an engine with harness than pulling it and dealing with the leftovers. Sadly, it's not so easy finding a good engine WITH a complete wiring harness. Most folks also like to test out the engine first which they obviously can't do with an already pulled motor.

I actually looked for awhile and couldn't find any engines with harness. The fact is, it's cheaper buying a complete svx with bad tranny than the engine/harness. A used JDM motor, which you really don't know what you're getting until you split the case or run it, go for around $1000. Add in the fact that complete wiring harnesses can never be found unless in a junk yard, buying a new harness is out of the question... $$$$ I got an entire car for $800, which I can make back by parting out and maybe even make a profit.

Look at the bright side though, people need parts for their cars and if it weren't for junk yards and people like me there wouldn't be any good used parts in circulation.

Somebody with a good mechanically good SVX with a bad body should buy this whole. It seems too nice to be pulled apart.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

I was just thinking that myself.

Trade a whole running SVX for a damaged body SVX with a good running engine... Or a transmission problem..

or both a bad body AND a transmission problem... Some SVXer would get an upgrade to a running, straight looking car, and you have your engine out of a car that is closer to the salvage stage.

If I lived closer to texas, I'd consider a trade for my running SVX that isn't as good looking as that one. Mine has peeling paint, a slight crease in the rear quarter panel, the body isn't straightened correctly after a previous accident, and the leather interior is sun damaged. But she runs nicely, and now reliably since I replaced the relay in the starting circuit.

I saved this one from the crusher, to keep it on the road, and your pearlie looks nicer even than mine, outwardly.
