Today I was waiting in a turn lane behind a Toyota Tacoma. Well he decided that he didn't want to wait anymore and threw it into reverse and backed right into me. The estimate came back at $2200. Now I just have to wait for his insurance to contact me so I can get it fixed.

Sometimes you wonder where people got their license

I think the accident yellowed your headlights. Get them to replace them with the OEM's from Germany (glass) :p :D

They are going to replace the center section and the drivers headlight(broken mounting tab). I hope I can polish the passenger side to match the new drivers one. I doubt the insurance would replace them in pairs.

Earthworm 01-24-2006 05:32 PM

Once you see the difference you'll wish they had replaced both.

ensteele 01-24-2006 07:17 PM

Gosh that is too bad. I hope their insurance takes care of it ok. :(

Lwin looked at my headlights on the car that had been rebuilt. He asked "how did you get those lights so clean?" I said - they are brand new. :D :D

Mine had worse damage than that after having someone cut me off and slam on the brakes in front of me :(

Used a come along and a tree to bend the radiator mounts back to straight-ish and some various other persuasions to bend the hood back to original shape... After getting a new grille from curley2k3 you would have to look at it closely to tell that it had been in an accident aside from the rust forming on the front of the hood now :\

It's surprising what two monkeys with hammers can do to a car with a little perserverence.

I wish the front end held up as well as the rear end did when I was rear-ended. Virtually no damage apart from some spiderwebish cracks on the rear bumper

I don't know. How's your german?

http://www.subaru.de/

As far as I know no one in North America has glass headlights on their SVX.

ensteele 01-26-2006 01:00 PM

Which lights do you need? :)

svxistentialist 01-26-2006 01:17 PM

Off topic...a little

We looked at this issue before. My UK model car has glass headlights. I was bothered that German headlights, which are for a lhd market like the US, would have the lens fluted to throw the dipped beam to the right, rather than to the left as my car does.

At the time I was told that this was not an issue, that the bulb or possibly the bulb holder needed only to be rotated by 45 degrees to achieve dipping to the other side.

This makes sense to me, they would have only needed to make one glass profile for the headlights, and adapt the bulb holders to suit left or right dip.

All of which leads me to suggest you could just as easily look for UK glass headlights, no language problem.

There still remains a problem; Subaru UK will not deal with any enquiry from outside the UK for any reason:mad: See

If you want UK glass headlights, you could post a request on the European forum, see if one of the UK based members could make an enquiry for you.

Possible group buy? :D

I seem to recall these assemblies are very expensive.
