NGK PFR6B-11 gaps
I have been told that the platinum NGKs for the SVX come 'pre-gapped.' If it was necessary, can I gap them properly? One of the plugs was damaged in shipping (I'll explain more thoroughly in my report on 1stsubaruparts.com). It doesn't look like the two platinum bits have made contact, but they're very close.

You can re-gap them but try to take care and not use the gapper for spreading them open. Try using needle nose or similar pliers to open the gap. The platinum coating is thin and easily displaced.

Hey Nick, here you go.
According to my handy SVX service manual, the gap should be 1.0-1.1mm (0.039 - 0.043 in.)
Tighten them to 13-17 ft-lbs. Todd |

No kidding, I wonder just how many shops actually do torque them. I never have. I just get them finger tight, then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. I don't even think my Sears 1/2" drive 2' long torque wrench can be set that low!

Think of it in the terms of picking up a 12 pack of long-necks...
