NGK PFR6B-11 gaps

I have been told that the platinum NGKs for the SVX come 'pre-gapped.' If it was necessary, can I gap them properly? One of the plugs was damaged in shipping (I'll explain more thoroughly in my report on 1stsubaruparts.com). It doesn't look like the two platinum bits have made contact, but they're very close.

You can re-gap them but try to take care and not use the gapper for spreading them open. Try using needle nose or similar pliers to open the gap. The platinum coating is thin and easily displaced.

Hey Nick, here you go.

According to my handy SVX service manual, the gap should be 1.0-1.1mm (0.039 - 0.043 in.)

Tighten them to 13-17 ft-lbs.

You can fit a torque wrench in there?? I barely got a socket on my plugs :D

No kidding, I wonder just how many shops actually do torque them. I never have. I just get them finger tight, then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn. I don't even think my Sears 1/2" drive 2' long torque wrench can be set that low!

Yeah, I hear you. I have been able to torque most of the things that I have found torque requirements for, but not a few. Spark plugs are on the latter list, but I figure that as long as I don't put 'em on with the breaker bar, I'm okay. :)

Think of it in the terms of picking up a 12 pack of long-necks...
