idiot lights

Has anyone ever had a series of idiot lights suddenly illuminate but then they mysteriously go out at low idle? They ( the steering light, the battery light, the stop lamp light, brake light, and ABS light ) all come on simultaneously and gradually fade out as the idle speed decreases as the engine warms up. But as soon as the engine speed increases ( only 100 rpm or so ) all the aforementioned lights come back on. I'm going to check the obvious things first
like burned out taillights, loose belts, low battery voltage, etc. but if anyone has any experience with this malady I sure could use some advice.

Get your alternator checked out. Most autopart stores will check it while in the car.

Sounds like a loose alternator belt, or a dying alternator. Since your in Colorado, I know that Mike Shaw subaru in Thornton has an SVX alternator in stock, if you want to make that trip.

When they check out the alternator they will likely find that one or more diodes have failed and the rectifier and/or voltage regulator will need to be replaced.
