hi. newbie here with questions.

Hey I recently sold my old pride and joy. I have always liked SVX when i saw them go down the street. I was like those are so cool.
So I am looking at getting one. I just need some advice, are they a reliable car? How fast are they? Also what are the different trim levels ? I am moving from my 89 mirage, trying to get a more reliable kinda how biet (slower) car. Nothing. I also only have 4grand at the moment however there are several within 300 miles of me on autotrader selling for 4 or under.

here is a link to the cars on autotrader

Thanks for all your help guys.

Hi patrick, saw your links the red anniversary looks nice but im weary about the aftermarket wheels and radio usually means its been around the block. I'd take a look at the black 92 w/131,500 thats a little bit high in the mileage but if you want an svx you'll run into this. Did you look in the for sale section on the site and ebay? Anyway here are some things to look for, try to get the service records of the vehicle and find out if the transmission has been replaced or rebuilt and if so when. especially the 92's make sure the radiator has been upgraded and the external trannsimssion filter has been added. If you can get one with a bad transmission for a good price you could put a manual transmission in for around $2000, thats the route I'd take. (Do a search for further info on this). The svx is very reliable if properly cared for, the parts are extremly expensive compared to a mirage. It is fast enough to keep you happy for a long time but they don't take kindly to abuse. The rear wheel bearings are subject to premature wear so don't treat it like a rally car it's a GT car and due to the transmission it's a little on the heavy side. With this in mind take it easy on the brakes front rotors tend to warp quickly if you ever get them changed get a set of slotted rotors to help cooling. I hope I didn't scare you off but try to get a warranty esp. on the tranny.

Wow, thanks for the great responses. I would love to meet a ky svxer, I haven't driven one of these cars yet. I like the styling, the fact there awd, and very luxurious looking on the inside. Also I am into fixing up cars that most ppl don't have. My 89 mirage was a Turbo Mirage 1/1500 of them ever made (including colt). I sold it to start something new, it would run a 11.8@119mph and was very very streetable.

they are not all AWD...and if you want a project car...get a cheap SVX with a dead tranny and put a 5 spd into, then you would be like totally awesome ;)

That 93 is actually a member's car... check in the Wanted Or For Sale section and it's listed in there. I did consider that one myself, but got a good deal on a 96. Couldn't really hurt, looks like a good car and the guy seems pretty friendly and willing to talk frankly about the vehicle. Could probably do worse.

Also bear in mind that the 93's were leftover 92's, so generally suffer the same "first year" teething problems that a lot of the 92's suffer from (hestitation fixed with the crush mod, etc.).

What is the guy smoking when he posted that red 93s are rare? There are fewer 96 and 97 (they are the same).

They only made 301 of the 93 silver (25th) anniversary modes, so they are somewhat rare. :)

93s are not left over 92s. There were 8000 92s imported to the US. All of them were white, green, black, silver but red was not introduced till 93. Yes they did sell a bunch of left over 92s in 93.

in 93, they added the center console lock and re-did the shifter unlock.

4SPEED Electronic Automatic Tranny. Standard piece of junk. ;)

Where are they getting the book vlaue on a 11 year old car with 130 miles on her? 4000 for that is a little on the high side regardless of condition and milage. I'd give at most 3000 for that. Why? It's 11 years old and values on the SVXes don't hold as well as they should.
