Brake break in

Anything special about breaking in brakes? Say that 3 times fast. :D Will they rub at first and then quiet down, or should they be silent when you are moving? I know that they should be used softly at first for a while so they can wear in a little. Just thought I would check to see if anyone had a special thought. (I might not know what I am getting into asking for thoughts :D )

I just drove my car after replacing pads and surfacing the rotors. However, I read somewhere that its best to get the car out on the highway and perform several slowdowns from freeway speeds down to about 25-30 mph. They say you should use the brakes firmly but not full force, and you shouldn't let the car come to a stop during the process. This is supposed to make the pads take a set while not overheating the rotors.

New ones shouldn't make any noise. If you've got rubbing sounds, your rotors or calipers may be frozen (if that's the right word - you know, not floating like they should).
