More Misc. Ramblings
1.) I was reading an article in an engineering trade magazine about raising the Civil War iron ship, the Monitor. They have already brought up the screw prop and the turret.
The most interesting thing to me that I read was that the Monitor's steam engine was a flat horizontal 2 cylinder design (sound familiar). Practically all marine steam engines of that time were vertical. John Erikson was a man well ahead of his time.
2.) Last night going home from work my 92 pearly and I diced with an Audi S8. I am very impressed by that big sedan. The drive home started out rotten. It took me 27 minutes to get to the other side of the 2 lane Lafayette St. bridge in Conshohocken. This bridge is approx. 1/4 mile long. The Blue Route, I-476S, crawled. It was drizzling. I-95 S was stop and go until just above the PA/DE state line. I accelerated up to about 80 mph crossed into DE and the S8 flew by like I was going backwards. Traffic is always light in northern DE. So I put my foot in it and caught up with him. I passed him in slower traffic and pulled away. To my surprise he caught up again and passed me. When traffic opened up we went at it. I barely pulled away at about 88-90 mph. Finally I had to get off in Wilmington, DE. He continued on I-95S heading for MD. The S8 was silver. They usually are black. I really, really liked that car. Now where can I find 100 boxes of ziti. For those of you who don't know; 1 box of ziti = $1000).
