Getting Krown rustproofing tomorrow

I have heard good things about Krown but, until now, they were only in Canada. They just opened a franchise in upstate NY so I am going to give it a try.

Everyone I've spoken to says it's the best out there.
My friends 14 year old Corolla is rust free with Krown and we are in a major salt/rust zone.

THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!!!!!!!!

However, the car's body already has other issues. The wing is crazing and the small horizontal surfaces just to the sides of the wing are showing some sort of bubbling in the clear coat even though I have kept a nice coat of wax on the car. But at least a car can be repainted a lot easier than rot can be repaired.

Does your friend get a re-coat done every fall or every other fall?

He gets it done every fall. There's a lifetime rust through warranty if you have it done every year from when the car is new. At $100.00 a year it starts to add up but body work is not cheap either.

Here is the Krown Warranty

BODY PANEL RUST PROTECTION – UNLIMIITED MILEAGE – FOR MAX. 60 MONTHS SUBJECT TO SHOP APPROVAL

This warranty applies to used vehicles purchased less than 24 months prior to application of KROWN, within 3 years of manufacturer’s production date, except as may be extended by applicable provincial laws.

ANNUAL APPLICATION GIVES CONTINUED PROTECTION

If you have KROWN Rust Control applied by a certified applicator annually within 30 days (plus or minus) of the anniversary date we will warrant:

1. ALL body panels below window line.
2. ALL seams and crevices.
3. ALL floor/rocker panels.

If any of the above perforates by rusting through, from the inside out, we will repair/replace them at no charge, up to the then current cash value of the vehicle as determined by us according to the Red Book.

If you sell the vehicle, the warranty is transferable to the new owner at No Cost. The warranty is honored at all KROWN Centers.

KROWN's warranty excludes only the following:

Roofs; rusting caused by stone chips, nicks, scratches, chips; rusting of caulk filled areas; the front fenders without fender liners, all mechanical parts, paint peeling/blistering/bubbling along seams, crevices and body panels that are not perforation.

KROWN, under the conditions of this warranty, shall not be responsible for lost time, inconvenience or any other consequential damage including loss of use of the vehicle in the event repairs are made to the vehicle under the conditions of this warranty.

Customers are responsible for maintaining yearly records of Krown applications. Please keep all of your receipts.

All rust repairs will be done at a facility chosen by Krown.

WARRANTY AMENDMENTS TO ACCIDENT DAMAGED VEHICLES IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE DAMAGED SECTION MUST BE RE-TREATED WITH KROWN (WITHOUT CHARGE) WITHIN 30 DAYS OF REPAIRS BEING COMPLETED.

However, KROWN has the option of canceling the warranty depending on the extent of damage and/or quality of repair on the affected area. Areas where missing paint is not replaced & re-sprayed with Krown within 6 months of notice will invalidate warranty.

There seems like a lot of loopholes here.

When I had my car rustyjonesed back in 1981 and it rusted through in 1985 ,they gave me back my $95.00 . 1981. Subaru GLF I was selling it anyway so I keeps the $95.

Like Blacky, I have heard that Krown is the best. No product is perfect and they have to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits. If you need to drive something during the winter, you can't garage all of your cars. The ones you drive can live longer if protected.

Conn, I had 1981 GLF 5-speed coupe. Bought it in 96 with only 59k miles on it. Came with original window sticker from Virzi Subaru in Stratford, CT. Car was like $7500 Brand New. The only rust at the time was on the lower portions of both fenders, which I immediately had repaired. One of my favorite little subies. 32 MPG on the highway with it. I got rid of it in 01 when I bought my first legacy, cause I wanted AWD. Only rust on it was of all places, around the trunk weather stripping. It was an almond looking beige with rust colored cloth interior. Those were some of the best and most reliable cars Ive ever owned.;) I remember back in the 80's Rusty Jones protected cars, seem to rust quicker than those with no rust proofing:o

Seems like any rust or corrosion that has started on a 15+ year old car would just be sealed under the rustproofing and continue to grow.

Corrosion needs oxygen so it depends on what type of rustproofing one is talking about.

Krown uses an oily substance called T40, I have a couple of cans. It does not seal and does slow or stop rust which has started. I've used it on the rusty areas of my Ebony for 4 years and they have not grown any larger.

Re: Getting Krown rustproofing tomorrow

Good thing about Krown:
- very good protection, this is what we are looking for.
Bad things:
- The Swiss cheese approach: they are going to drill 8mm holes all over the place in your car's body.
- You will need to wash your car often even 6 months after application. The oil they "injected" into your car keeps leaking, it gets mixed with the dust and it creates big, ugly dark stains.
- It's the most expensive rustproofing method we have in town.

Is it worth it? For where I live (5 months salt on the road) without any doubt!

SVX bodies were electroplated with zinc before the painting process, so rust is not as big an issue as with most cars...
