Check Fraud

I was supposed to be receiving a check in the mail from a friend, but never got it. The check was cashed on Monday, the funds were withdrawn from his account on Thursday. He's going to talk to his bank tomorrow. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? How did the thief manage to cash the check? What steps did you take? Was it ever solved?

I'm so pissed at the world right now

You need to contact the bank asap. Both you and the friend. They can go back and find out when and where it was cashed. Sorry to hear that. :(

Sorry to hear about it. I believe the establishment who cashed the check has to mail the check to the bank from which the funds originated. Most places require the person cashing the check to provide some sort of identification or even a fingerprint. I also believe the people who cashed the check will be responsible for not getting proper I.D. Good luck I hope you get your dough.

My bank never checks for ID unless withdrawing from an account, or doing a high dollar trans.

Man i worked as a banker for 3 years before my current Telecom company, i was the head of all the monetary operations in the bank (consisting of 30 branches, Lebanese Canadian Bank), i am telling you, this is the bank's fault, this never should have happened... unless the bank employee has something to do with it...
