What year SVX w/least the least transmission problem(s)?
 

I just want to know which year have the least or no transmission problems? Like a '97 or '96 etc.
Please let me know.

Supposedly 94 and newer are pretty stable with care.

Thats funny because i have a friend with a 94 LS that has 56 k on the clock and his tranny just went out. I'd say the 97's are a best bet.

My 94 LE went 140,000 miles before the tranny went. My 95 has 150,000 miles and still works great. A lot has to do with how it was cared for........

I have rarely heard of the OBDII SVX's ('96 & '97) ever having tranny failures...

I had ~100K on my old SVX 4EAT and it shifted great before I swapped it out for a 4.11 Impreza trans.

I tend to differ on opinions with most but I say they all for the most part have pretty equal chances of surviving or failing. For a while everyone said 94 or newer was better but that was when most of these cars had 50k or so miles on 'em. As they got up to around 100k a high, probably proportunate amount to the 92-93s had failed around the same time. Granted Subie did attempt some fixes as the years went on but it never was gotten right. Buy the best you can afford just keep in mind you'll have a $3000+ bill in the near future. If it doesn't happen go to Vegas;) as the stars are shinning bright on ya.

I think that after 100,000 miles, all bets are off; any maunfacturer's automatic of any model year is apt to fail any day... or soldier-on for another 100,000 miles. Depends upon maintenance history and driving habits (and fate).

Both MY 1998 and MY 1991 have perfect unblemished records. ;)

dcarrb is right. The problem with the tranny is a cooling problem which decreases longevity. The vast majority are overdriven, and the vast majority have now passed 100 K. The life span of the tranny fluid (the cooling agent) is about 80,000 IF NEVER OPERATED BEYOND IT'S MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE.

So, if the fluid was never overheated, it should be changed at 80,000 miles. Most SVX'es have overheated, most did not get changed regularly their whole lives, and most are now past 100,000 miles. So many are now experiencing problems.

Find one with excellent documentation of ALL maintenance, and you'll have a gem.

I agree with the 94's. My 94 went over 250,000 before I had to replace the tranny. My 95' has 135,000 on it and still going.

I still believe if you maintain your ride, it should last longer or forever. I say '96-97 would probably be the least problems.:rolleyes:

Add a transmission cooler to any year you get, and you'll have a better chance of going 100k+ miles without having to rebuild/replace.

And I second that statement about all automatics from all manufacturers. At least make/models which cost less than $50k. ;) My girlfriend's 2000 Mustang V6 is an automatic, and with just 50500 miles in the odo the tranny's already acting up (worse than my '92 SVX's with 75k miles, which is being rebuild due to worn clutches, as we speak)

Always consider age as well, not just mileage. Certain properties of lubricants breakdown over time, and can cause the "max operating temperature" treshhold to lower.
