Tacho needle barely moves past 1000 rpm!
 

Just noticed that my revs are showing just over 1000 so the needle is hardly moving as you rev up the engine. It is as though the meter has lost a multiplier of 10. I wonder if it is coinicidental in any way to having my real wheel bearings replaced - finally the car is nice and quiet again!! I have only just noticed the problem.
I welcome any ideas as to what it may be due to.

It may just be the meter, as it is driven of the crank sensor, maybe wiring to it.

My car has an intermittent fault in the tacho, similar to what you have described. It also throws an crank position sensor error. So it seems the two are related.
Subaru dealer didn't seem too concerned that crank position sensor was faulty. It explained that if it gave up completely the car might be hard to start when hot (or cold, can't remember which it was).

In mine this is a frustrating fault, because my speedo doesn't work above 50 km/h and so I rely on my tacho to guessitmate my speed.

I'd better fix one or the other.

Hi Harvey, Is the crank sensor easy to find if I want to trace the wire through to the tacho to see what may be the issue. It sounds a bit like a resistive joint or similar causing a recalibration. Many thanks for your advice. I am still to put in the Quick Change! The car is a pleasure to drive again after replacing the rear bearings

The taco reads the RPM signal from the ECU. it also goes to the TCU.
So if the car runs, the crank sensor and the ECU are OK.
So it should be in the dash panel or wiring up there.
