Press Shiftlock to shift from park

When I test drove the SVX, it had a problem of needing to press the shiftlock button to shift from park, with the engine running. What could be the cause of this, and is it a sign of a bad problem to come?

My car also has this problem, I've had to do it ever since I bought the car 18 months ago. It comes and goes, sometimes a couple days it will be fine, but 90% of the time I have to hit the button. As far as I know it's not a major problem and can't get any worse, it's just annoying. I just live with it.

My bet is that it has something to do with the sensor regarding the brake and the shift interlock system. I don't know the specifics, but I know for sure it has to do with that system.

You do, but it's under a cover and it requires a screwdriver.

A love tap from my fist enables it to shift using the button!

If i had to guess what the part is called that isn't functioning on your car (with out any part books in front of me) i would call that the shift lock solenoid... which based on the click i hear coming from the shifter when i press on the break when the car is in park shouldn't be far from the shifter... that should be what the problem is assuming that there is power getting to it
