Power Steering pump overhaul

How hard is it to replace seals, bearings etc.

Does anyone have breakdown of part numbers & prices in order that I can do the refurbishment myself.

Oh yes it is for the LSi model.

Thanks

Have you got the Work Shop Manuals for the car Steve?

Harvey.

No - sorry have not...I can imagine that it should not take to long to do, just need part numbers / torque settings etc.

thanks

Check out the how to documents, could be more info in there. Good luck.

thankyou for that information - it will help me locate the small leak that I have (which I suspect is the o-ring under the tank).

Re: Power Steering pump overhaul

I fully rebuilt my power steering pump as well as a spare I sold on Ebay while going to school for Automotive Technician. It was pretty easy and cost me about $40 a pump. I looked around but, I couldn't find all the part numbers and torque specs. One of these days I should go up to my old school and print them out again off Alldata.

Re: Power Steering pump overhaul

Well got that $1.90 o-ring for my power steering pump, pulled out the fluid tank & wow there was not even an o-ring fitted!!!!

I suspect that after 12 years the ring just fell apart.

So for 45 minutes work to, remove / fit / clean engine - it was the best $1.90 I ever spend!!!.

Thanks to all for the help previous to this posting.

Follow that How To document loosely. It's not complete and is incorrect in sections. There is a bit that it completely misses/skips. I followed it carefully and was disappointed at the lack of information. I started re-writing it and taking photos but I had an issue with the bearing I purchased and had to postpone the rebuild. However, since I needed my car running immediately, I just bought a rebuilt pump. I plan on finishing the rebuild when I get my garage in order and posting (hopefully) clearer photos.
But I just wanted to warn caution because it you don't know what you are doing, don't think that document will explain everything. It's a good.. overview at best. (sorry to the guys who wrote it..)

hmmm... was actually going to ask about this. My pump also needs rebuilding and when I mentioned just o-ring/bearing to the CV/steering guy he kinda looked at me funny and reeled off a list of other components that he said were part of a rebuild (wish I could remember what they are but can't for the moment). I was wondering if he was trying it on, or if replacing the o-ring&bearing was more along the lines of a service than a rebuild.

Tania.
