any upholstery service or a store that sells fabrics. i think subaru dealers may even order some. i remember seeing a panel that had the different fabrics they use in their vehicles that could be ordered. <shrug>

why not just spend a little more and get real suede?

Electrophil 11-06-2005 02:43 PM

I could use some of this too. I made the fatal rookie mistake of using spray style suede cleaner and the brush cap on mine. oops.......

I've made a few "oops" here lately. I'm slipping. :o

Whoa, youre not supposed to use suede cleaner on the fake suede? I just bought suede cleaner to clean some spots off mine! Glad i read this before i started cleaning it!

So if you cant use suede cleaner what do you use? My car has some darked patchs where the passanger rested dirty hands. Other than that mine is really clean but that 1 spot bugs me to no end!

Electrophil 11-06-2005 06:06 PM

I sprayed the stuff on, used the brush on the cap, and it just came off rolled up in little balls. I could shoot myself, cause it wasn't really even stained and "was" in near mint condition.

Dengue 11-06-2005 06:07 PM

I used a rubber suede eraser thingie on mine... and the brush on the other side of it....

my L had saggy plastic in it when I bought it, so, through a series of ebay victories, I replaced it all (except the door panels) with escaine I got most of the used escaine looking nice, and of course then my girlfriend hit the dash with a lit cigarette....she is my cars worst enemy...

Did you use strictly a suede cleaner, or did you use one that is also designed for "nubuck" (essentialy fake suede similar to escaine)
I've also heard that if you use the spray cleaner one shouldn't scrub it, but you can blot the cleaner which will keep the fabric from piling.

Actually, it did say "nubuck" on the can. I just never knew what that was until you just told me. I bought it where my wife buys her shoes.

I was with her playing "shoe midwife", saw the can, and said "duhhh.. kewl! duhhh! let me try this." The damage is done. Like I said, it didn't need cleaning in the first place which is what really torqued me on it. :o

I'll try blotting from now on.

Well Im sure one of the gals here will correct me if Im wrong about nubuck being essentialy fake suede, but Im 98% sure about it.
I've also never tried to clean my escaine (and parts could use it), but have considered switching the pannels to L pannels so as to not have to worry about it....... :D

I had perfect condition leather panels in my 94, but I gave them to Blacknite. But his really needed them at the time, and my interior looked really good. :)

I don't really have an issue with people drinking in the car but smoking is a NO.

In the US most upholstry shops are going to carry it under the "Ultra-suede" name, I believe the name of the manufacturer is Tappen or something along those lines. It was explained to me that "Escaine" was most likely a name created by Subaru's Marketing Dept. (Remember Dodge's Corinthian Leather pitched by Mr Fantasty Island)

I found a gray that matched mine, but I forget the color name. The shop gave me a quote of about $100 to redo the two door panels.

More than you want to know about Ecsaine.

Electrophil 11-07-2005 06:11 AM

Excellent link Darrell, Thanks!

Anybody have a "brand name" for benzene?
