Low Mileage 93 SVX for sale

5 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone. I will be selling my two-owner 69K mile Anniversary Edition SVX. This car is in exceptional condition. I bought the car from the original owner to add to my collection of low-mileage Japanese cars from the 90's. I had searched for 2 years to find the best original SVX before I found this one. The original owner was selling because he was in his 80's.

Body, paint, and interior are 100% original. Once I got the car I completely sorted it out doing complete fluid changes, installed a trans cooler, new tires, new steering column (because the tilt function wasn't working), and replaced both front axles. The car now drives as new and I've taken it on two long 500 mile+ trips.

Only selling because I've added additional higher end cars to my collection since I bought this SVX and need the room in my storage facility.

My plan is to have my car listed soon on an online auction through bringatrailer.com. If you haven't seen their site you should check it out because they've sold a few other SVXs.

In the meantime, give me a call at 805-402-2809 if you have any questions at all about my car. I've also tried to attach a number of photos to show the condition of the car, and hope to also have a detailed walk around and driving video available on YouTube before too long.

SINCE I CAN ONLY LOAD 5 PICTURES I AM UPDATE IN DIFFERENT PHOTOS EVERY FEW DAYS (you can also call me and I will send you additional photos).

Location of the SVX: Ventura, California

Year: 1993

Model: 25th Anniversary

VIN: JF1CX3534PH101136

Manufacture date: 1993

Paint Color: Barcelona Red

Interior Color: Beige Leather

Mileage: 69,000 miles

AWD or FWD: AWD

Major service: Oil, Transmission and coolant fluid change 2018. New front axles and steering column. New tires with wheel alignment.

Maintenance Records: Stack of records from the original owner.

Engine Condition: Runs perfect.

Transmission condition: Shifts quick with no glitches (transmission cooler installed upon my purchase). Original owner reported no transmission problems.

Glass condition: All original and in good condition.

Type of tires and remaining tread: Purchased late 2018 (only a thousand miles).

Type of wheels: Factory alloys.

Interior condition: Very good so I'll only focus on the negatives. Slight bolster wear on the driver's seat, but less than I'd seen on any SVX that I ever looked at. Contact me for any detail pictures (I have over a hundred). A couple very slight scratches on the woodgrain on the console. Brand new set of unopened factory floor mats.

Body condition: Very good and original. A couple very small door dings where the paint hasn't been damaged and therefore should be able to be fixed thru PDR. I was going to have my PDR guy do them, but after all the money I have invested in the car I figured I'd let the new owner decide if he or she wanted them removed. Only a few (photos available). There are some paint chips on the front bumper and spoiler, and a couple small scratches on the paint (again photos available). As with the interior though, this is the nicest original body and paint I'd ever seen on an SVX. Most of my collector cars from the 90's have only between 10K to 40K miles, so I tend to be very picky.

Known defects or problems: Really isn't anything wrong to speak of since I sorted it out when I bought the car. Definitely spent a lot of money fixing little things like the tilt column that I could have lived with, or at least wouldn't have fixed if I'd thought I'd need to sell the car. I do NOT flip cars - I keep them and drive them for the long haul. A couple things that I can think of include: the hydraulics on the hood are weak so that the hood sometimes doesn't stay up on its own, you have to push the cruise control button a couple times before it stays on. I'll try to post anything else that comes to mind.

Comments about the car: This really is a nice one. You'd have to see my collection to know how picky I am. I really wish I had the room to keep this, but something has to go, and I don't want the car to stay outside under a cover. I have a 40K mile 1991 300ZX Turbo that I almost decided to sell instead of the SVX, but as much as I enjoy the way the SVX eats up miles comfortably on the highway, the ZX is going to be the better long term investment.

Asking price: The car will be sold to the highest bidder on Bringatrailer.com. If you know the site you know that they require very modest reserve prices to ensure that almost every vehicle sells. Please call me for details about the car as soon as you can before it is listed so that you can see it (or have it inspected).

Re: Low Mileage 93 SVX for sale

An asking price is required to give interested buyers the option to pursue further. If it is way out of their price range they would just ignore it. However if it was close to their budget, then the potential for a sale goes up. This is independent of the prices on bringatrailer. Please consider adding at least a price that what you might consider.

In the past 4+ years, the highest price for an SVX on bringatrailer was for a 1994 51,000 mile car with a final price of $9300, which I thought was way too high.

Members here are much more familiar with these cars, their strengths and weaknesses, than those in the general public who may not appreciate the work you have done to this car.

Wow, my second favorite color combination after the pearlies. Beautiful! I'll be keeping an eye out on BaT.

Suggestion: Make some of your picture submissions to BaT "normal" i.e. not glam shots like the ones you uploaded here. People appreciate a chance to make an honest appraisal, especially if they live a few thousand miles away.

This is a reply to the suggestions by both WDB and SVXCESS.

WDB, you are 100% correct about the glam shots. My intention when I posted was that after uploading a few of the "glam shots," I would begin loading some of the numerous detail shots I have. For example, I've shot the car with a busy reflection background using close ups of every body panel to show how straight the car is. I also have dozens of photos of all the interior details, some of which show some minor wear (goal being to make sure nobody is surprised). I first loaded the full body pictures of the car and then found to my dismay that the site only allowed me to post five. Therefore, anyone who is interested should call me at 805-402-2809 and I will send any additional photos they want. I'VE THEREFORE REPLACED A COUPLE WITH INTERIOR CLOSE UP SHOTS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO OVER THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS.

SVXCESS, I am a strong believer in the BaT auction process and look forward to selling my car on their site. It's a fun week answering questions and showing off the car. It's also a good way to get folks that are normally thinking only about Porsches and Alfas to realize that the SVX is an underrated collector car. Therefore, out of respect for the BaT process I don't post a price before the BaT auction. I did not see anything mandatory about cars needing to have a price posted here. If it is absolutely mandatory please let me know and I would post a price a little above what I expect it to bring on BaT.

I do understand that I might be able to directly sell the car faster through this site if I posted a price, rather than just noticing the upcoming auction, but I'm not really worried about maximizing my selling price since I'm planning on donating 100% of all proceeds above the BaT reserve to a charity in my area anyway.

A price is required. It is important to know if it more than someone's budget or move forward with interest and possible sale. Thank you.

I am really interested to see how this goes. I also own a beautiful 74k mile 93 anny. Mine isn’t for sale, but I feel your sale may be a good market test for a well sorted unique example.

Good luck with the sale!

Patiently waiting for it to be listed on BaT - not to purchase but see how it is received and finally sells.

Re: Low Mileage 93 SVX for sale

Hi everyone (and thanks for your patience).

BaT is in the process of scheduling my car for their auction. It will still be about 2 to 3 weeks. I think BaT is a victim of its own success. I just drove the car 80 miles to a work function. I guess I'm preaching to the choir on this board when I say how well these cars eat up the miles on the highway. Seems like every time I drive the SVX I think that I should sell my 300ZX Turbo instead to open up storage space. The ZX is worth twice as much (and will have better appreciation over time), but for grand touring comfort the SVX is a much better car (way underrated in my opinion). But, as I said, I'm probably preaching to the choir here.

I'll post a link to the walk around and driving video as soon as I have it.

Insight into the BaT process would be interesting if you have the time.

Yes, you are preaching to the choir :) but we are still sad to see it go. I keep hoping with time these BaT type auctions will drive up prices but only time will tell. I am not looking to sell mine, but it would just be nice.

I think bringatrailer.com should change it's name to sellaporsche.com. I've gotten very fast at skipping past the thousands of Porsches listed. Can you tell I don't like Porsche. Panamera is the exception.

Re: Low Mileage 93 SVX for sale

I'm trying to answer the question of the person who asked for insight into the BaT auction process. I've bought two cars from BaT and sold three, so I'm fairly familiar. I am a fan, but do realize they are having some difficulty transitioning now that their volume is high.

The best thing is that the cars are vetted. When my car goes online I expect that a number of you real SVX experts will see a bolt or bracket out of place that I didn't even know existed. You will chime in about all the pros of an SVX (many) and the cons (can you say "transmission").

The net result is that the buyer will have far more confidence in knowing what they are getting than either EBAY or Mecum.

I will also try to get some regular BaT folks to come out and drive my car and provide their honest opinion.

I collect cars that meet both of the following: 1) at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve, and 2) interest me. So I track prices. I previously spent 15 years as an exec at J.D. Power and did a lot of this type of price tracking as part of that position. From my experience BaT is currently the best read on prices. Too many people go with asking prices on AutoTrader and such, but these aren't realistic. Also, Mecum and BJ aren't good because there are too many "games" going on that create unrealistic prices in some cases. Thus far the SVX has been stable. I don't really see its prices making much of a jump for about 5 years because they will lag behind the other Japanese leaders that have been making the jump already (Supra, MR2, etc.). These will drag up the rare SVX, especially as people realize what great cars they are.

And to the other poster, I too share your regret that it seems like you have to sort thru a hundred Porsches and BMW's to get to something interesting and different. It didn't used to be that way on BaT a couple years ago. But, the interesting stuff still comes up every day.

I own a 93 SVX and a Porsche 928. LOL.

Re: Low Mileage 93 SVX for sale

BaT is a great place to sell a Porsche. They get pretty sweet prices compared to the broader market. And since I'm currently on a bit of a BMW jag I appreciate the attention those get too. Although a few less M3's would be okay, sheesh how many of those things did they make anyway. And I'm starting to think that every Z8 ever sold in the US has gone through the site as well.

That "how to sell on BaT" video is very entertaining! Thanks for posting it.

When I was preparing to sell my first Z4 coupe I prepped and photographed it with the expectation that I was going to list it on BaT. I think that's one of the best things about the site; seeing firsthand what good presentation looks like, and what kind of difference it can make in the outcome of a sale. In my case I first tried posting the car on a couple of enthusiast sites, and bam! I got a buyer. So I didn't get to experience the "thrill" of selling my car there. I think my heart rate is happier for it!
