Another one bites the dust.

Looks like my SVX will be totaled...as the estimate was around $6500...and kelley says it's worth 5k.

I'll tell the story later, but here's some pics.
(i didnt take the pics, so they arent the best...)

The list of parts it needs is 2 pages long...with over 50 parts.
The front and rear suspension is shot...2 of the rims...i cant think right now....

That's depressing Scott. Your car was so nice, what happened?

Chicane 07-11-2003 04:10 PM

:(

That doesn't look like 6500 dollars worth of damage though... think about it, you could buy another trashed SVX in a front end collision for like a grand with no engine or transmission (maybe less actually) and just swap over some suspension components. I don't think that car is ready to die yet.

Yeah, i'm fine. We're (my dad an i) are gonna go talk to the body shop, and get a look at it for ourselves.

How it happened:

It had just started to rain, and the parking lot had ust been re-surfaced, so it was extremely slippery.
The other car comes speeding inbetween 2 islands right at me.
I slam on the brakes and turn all the way to the right, which induces a slide. I hit the curb broad-side, went over it, and hit the tree.

The whole rear end is shot, the axle is bent, the door barely closes, the trunk is stuck closed...arg...i'll keep you guys posted.

Here's a diagram:

Oh yeah...and the other car probably didnt even notice that he caused this...and drove away. Unfourtunately I was too shocked, and scared to see the plate.

Pure_Insanity8 07-11-2003 04:35 PM

Ow... sorry man.:( I hate to see that. I guess as long as you're not hurt too bad (hopefully not at all)... you can always get another SVX. The damage doesn't look like it should cost that much, but I suppose there is a lot that broke that you can't see from the outside.

I'd like to hear the story once you've calmed enough to type it out.

Pure_Insanity8 07-11-2003 04:39 PM

OK, I guess to told it as I was typing. Glad you're not hurt. That kind of crap would be REALLY frustrating/infuriating.

Tell me about it....

On another topic...anyone know anything about VW Corrado's? There's a really nice one for sale right down the street for $4500... I've "raced" the guy before, and it's definately quicker then the SVX...that may be one option...

Green1995SVX 07-11-2003 04:44 PM

Scott-

If you decide to rebuild her, let me know if I can get you any parts. The only problem is, my parts car has similar damage. :(

Bwana 07-11-2003 04:46 PM

OK, i'll let you know Mike...

Maybe i'll type up the parts list and send it to ya. See what you can do. *shrug*

Corrados are kinda cool. Really the only VW that I have ever liked. It is worth checking it out... but you better get another SVX down the road <shakes fist>.:D Is it an SLC or VR6?
