TPS Adjustment Pictures - How To

I would like to know if I did this correctly based on the written instructions on the forum for adjusting the throttle position sensor.

The following pictures show my setup:
1) Stuck a needle into the white wire and hooked up my voltmeter per instructions
2) I loosened the two screws on the TPS
3) Set the volt meter on the 20K ohm setting
4) Turned ignition to "on"
5) Turned on voltmeter and got my initial readings
6) I adjusted the TPS and tightened the screws until I got as close to 5.00 Vdc as possible

Observations: The TPS would hum at different resistances above 5500...is that normal? Also once I reached 4.97 and turned the meter off, the hum began again and I tapped the TPS and the hum went away

If this is a correct setup perhaps we can post it in the How-To section?

So can anyone tell me if my TPS is bad? Here's what I did:
(set at 20K ohms resistance on voltmeter)

1) I took the TPS off and measured in between terminals 1 and 3 (throttle closed) and got 4800 ohms - Near spec of 5000 ohms

2) Measured between terminals 2 and 3 and got 77 ohms (.07) (throttle closed) - This is way out of spec...spec is 10,000-12,000 ohms

3) Measured between terminals 2 and 3 while opening the sensor (throttle opened) and got 4920 ohms - Within spec of 3000-5000

So all together this is a faulty part? Can someone confirm please.

First the setting is 0.5VDC, second it may be a typo but the meter should be set on the DCVolt setting not the Ohm setting.
The hum could be the meter reading a voltage on the Ohm setting.

With the connections that you have, red connected to the white wire, black connected to ground, set to 0.5Volts.

Harvey.

Looks like from my picture, my meter was on the wrong setting...I wasn't on Vdc but ohms....

Ok so with my wrong setup I checked this and the TPS would have registered .40 Vdc....I have now corrected it to read as close to .5Vdc as possible..I have .51Vdc.
