Clean out AC Funk?
Ok, serious problem here.
How do I get rid of the Musty / Old / Funk smell whenever the A/C kicks in? Is there a way to clean out the vents? HELP!!! It's not the refridgerant, AC works great. It's just BAD FUNKY Jonathan |
There is some kinda spray out there that you can use. Someone im sure will post it for you as i dont know what it is called.

I believe there is something especially for A/C that is made to spray into the intake vent that won't give you a build-up of crap. I think this might be it http://www.airsept.com/cooling.html

Thanks for the help,
I'll give Dayle a call tomorrow. Jonathan |
Another thing to try
Another low cost alternative is to spray a bunch of Febreeze into the HVAC air intake (at the base of the windshield) while the AC is on full blast. It works well and doesn't cost alot but you have to repeat it once a season.

Where is the intake?

Is the intake below the dash? Or above? Jonathan |
HVAC intake is between the wipers.

A can or two of Lysol does a good job as well, just have the windows open and don't be inside the car while "cleaning" the vents. Just be sure to pick a fragrance that you can live with for a few weeks, as the Lysol smell will linger for awhile. I've had a couple of bouts of the old sock smell in the AC and Lysol has never failed. Now, I usually run in the ECON mode for a minute or so before shutting down the AC to minimize condensation in the vents and haven't had to do the Lysol thing for at least 3 years now.
