Sunroof seal

My seal is coming loose. How does it attach to the moving part? Does it press fit into it or is it put on using an adhesive?

Just a press fit.

So, if mine is coming off, does that mean it is broken in some way. Is there some rubber stuck in a groove or something like that which I will have to remove before replacing the seal?

I could really use an answer on this question if anyone knows. If there are pieces stuck in a groove somewhere, I will probably use a rubber adhesive to stick it back on versus pulling the whole damn sunroof off the car.

The sunroof just unbolts from the mechanism.

The seal isn't much diff. from the main doors seals. Just pressure fit. Been too long for me to remember if there is a tongue & groove. I can tell you that the seam between the two ends should be at the rear. When I had my car painted the shop put it on backwards and it only took a few minutes to remove & reinstall.

The seal is one continuous strip. Start at the center of the rear of the sunroof and press it into the groove slightly all the way around. But the time you get around the whole way you want slightly more rubber left over than the space you have to cover (maybe an inch).

Then butt the two edges together tightly and push the excess into the groove (in effect compressing it)

If you stretch it to fit, it will soon return to its unstretched state and leave a gap between the ends.

It may take a couple of tries to get it right

OK, going to give it a try.

Just doing a quick search found it for much cheaper somewhere else. Hopefully you didn't purchase yet.

Everyone I've had was split, with the joint in the middle of the back of the sunroof.....and they were pretty easy to remove, just presses on (upward from below the sunroof......open it and you can get to it.

If the front of the seal is detached, does that mean it left some of itself behind where it pressed into the panel? If so, I am assuming I need to remove the panel to pick out the broken bits.

Possibly, but if you slide the sunroof back, you should be able to see the front area to see if any "Bit" left in the rain gutter

Thanks all. I had success putting the new seal on. Much drier now and much less wind noise.
