WRX Motor Poll
This is about weather to put the motor I bought in the Wife's Outback Sport Auto, or in my Driver the XT6 5-Speed.

ALCYONE all the way!! :D :D
Mike |
I say we put it in my Legacy wagon, that would probably be the easiest option:D :D
|
I agree with Mike, put it in the XT. I am sure it would be a wild car wih that engine in it.

What kind of shape is your xt6 in? 5spd? Put the engine in that... Let us know how the priject progresses... |

My XT is a AWD 5-Speed with the "diff lock", it has 134k and is in decent shape, a few litte spots of rust, but not ate up with it. Mechanically, it's pretty sound. Will try to keep yo posted once the install gets under way. |
I say go for the XT. It would definetely be the first and only of its kind.Plus why let the wife have all of the fun after all the hard work you put into it.:)
|
Huck we've put a wrx 227hp with 4.11 tranny in a 94 impreza and this car eat a 2002 wrx
I'd put my xt-6 chassis in question. this engine is a beast( already worked with it). in either case make sure your car is very rigid. Marty Question pm me at pieces@conceptgranby.com |
Hey Huck,
I think I have to replace the engine in my 97 OBS this summer. What do I need to replace it with the WRX engine besides the intake and exhaust plumbing and inter-cooler. What about the ECU? does that have to change? Where would you put the cold air intake? Isn't the frame rail above the radiator different on the WRX? Do you think the auto trans could take the torque? John :) |
uuhh,...... don't know, I haven't even received the motor yet:o
Will try to keep the progress posted when I get started.:) |
My instinct was to put it in the OBS, since it's a newer car. But the XT would be more fun and it's already got a manual tranny (I'd want to convert the OBS to a manual).
But that's just me. You're going to do what you want (and you should) regardless of public opinion because you can weigh the pros and cons of either choice better than we can. |
Huck
Put it in the XT6, will make an interesting piece of auto-self-destruct.:) :D Kidding, Huck, kidding.:) Would be a good idea though to strengthen the suspension turrets, as they do with rally cars. Also consider making up and adding a strut brace for it when the engine is in. Looking forward to progress. Joe:cool: |
Mr. Pockets,
The OBS would be the easiest swap, as it came out of an Impreza platform......but the XT would no doubt be a blast to play with. I've got pro's and con's both ways. Joe, I figured on a building a front strut tower brace for which ever one I end up putting it into, the XT has Coilover shocks in the rear instead of struts, so I don't know how I could reinforce the rear on it, but I'm sure it can be done, just a matter of checking it out. Financially it would probably smarter to put it in the OBS, as I could recoup some $ from the sell of the 2.2L in it, where as the XT6’s 2.7 has 134k on it, and harder to find a buyer for it as it’s pretty rare. But I wouldn’t hesitate to cut and weld on the XT, but hate to chop up the OBS. I could argue it both ways, but am leaning toward the XT6 presently. |
For what it's worth, Huck, I like the idea of the XT. That would be one rare, fun vehicle! :)

huck-
i've got an '89 RX and i'm contemplating dropping a 2.7 in it.. I doubt it'll ever happen, but I'd consider scraping together a couple hundred bucks if you decided to sell the 2.7 -adam |
